I was thinking the same thing, Bellayana.. If I'm not mistaken, Garumsh is sitting at a whopping 31 total glory accumulated.

Yes the costs are high but i believe Mask was suggesting that Glory could be gained doing RP events and the like. I would guess Glory would become more readilly available.

aye glory was never meant to be easy to get. I'd wish I had more free time to get in on some of the events haha but i work to much to afford the bills I got poo. But through quests and through events it shouldn't be impossible to come by ^.^

Here is an idea, I do not know if it's been suggested before or not.

True Reincarnation for glory

True Reincarnation could reset a level 45+ character to level 1, resetting the stat points and having them be reassigned, but keeping possessions and skills. Skills have required levels, so they naturally wouldn't all be available immediately, but you'd keep the different skills and their previously acquired experience. To be fair, though, skills from prestige classes should not gain experience until they take the class again. These would be cross-class skills.

So if you have a level 50 Paladin, and you True Reincarnate, you get a level 1 Warrior. All your Paladin skills remain available to you when you reach the proper level, but they do not gain experience in those skills unless you purchase the skills/spells with glory.

qlog would likely have to be reset, or else any quests related to a guild you joined before reset. Anyway, I guess there is a lot that could be done with this, so what do you all think?

Since glory is not going to be about quests as much any more, there shouldn't be much reason for people to True Reincarnate in some attempt to accumulate glory, right? And you can furthermore attach a cost in glory and perhaps costs in other ways, like money or components, to complete a true reincarnation.

I suggested a level 45-50 restriction, but that is just a suggestion. It could be a higher or lower limit, whatever you IMMs want. I just said 45+ because be then you can use all class skills and spells, etcetera.

Sounds pretty interesting, Theleus.. But if I may ask, where is the benefit aside from cross-class skills?

I've been on MUDs with remort systems; I can't say I'm a big fan of them, but I'm still curious to know more about your vision of this.

A couple more points about this idea.

a)a Fighter who True Resurrects becoming warrior, but keeps fighter abilities.
b)Warrior trains and becomes Paladin.
c)Once he becomes a paladin, some of the cross-class skills become disabled, though the experience is stored still.

While the warrior retains the fighter abilities, the warrior does not gain experience in the fighter abilities.

This would create a paladin with a little extra oomph, but if they are really careful maybe it can be done without being overdone.

Here's an idea too. True reincarnation could have a cost in kismet AND glory, like maybe 1500 kismet and 150 glory. Or maybe a higher cost at the Imm's discretion.

Idea number two.
Maybe for each successful true reincarnation you could earn one additional stat point to redistribute. So first time you might get 19 instead of 18, then 20, then 21, up to 24 with 6 theoretical reincarnations. Any reincarnations after that could remain 24 points. Just a few ideas.

Skills would be sealed and unusable with this plan until the character was the proper level to use them, so a level 4 warrior would would not have those extra attacks of a level 50 fighter who true reincarnates.

But once that warrior with paladin abilities becomes a Paladin or ranger, some of those fighter skills would be disabled. Furthermore, a true reincarnated character would never gain experience in cross-classed skills unless they paid an additional glory cost for each individual skill/spell.

In character reasons for a true reincarnation could be something like a quest, during which you contract a disease of some kind so the quest giving priest offers True Reincarnation as a means of curing this disease of whatever, so you have to gather materials for him as well as meeting a Kismet/Glory requirement.

Out of character reason might be the ability to use different skill sets and get a tiny bit more powerful.

Remorts are used on a lot of muds but my concern here is that we would be breaking away from D&D rules somewhat. It's the differences in classes that make them enjoyable, not combining all the best parts of different classes into one super character. A fighter and paladin are different classes and I might be old school when I say this, but I like them being different. I enjoy the variety of abilities when grouping with people. A multi class in D&D has to make sacrifices, if you had a level 10 fighter / level 10 cleric, the cleric side would not get the high level spells, the fighter side would not get all the base attack bonuses and etc... However, your suggestion would give the character full benefits of both classes. Eventually the mud would become nothing more than a race to choose the best two classes in combination, and race though all 50 levels in both classes...
Seek ye victory? Ye shall eventually find defeat.
Seek ye defeat? Ye shall most certainly find it.
Seek ye nothing? Then all ye can find is victory.

So how would we go about doing the Prestige Classes? Are we going to have special skills available to these classes spells and the like?

I didn't see mention of prestige classes. I don't think that was approved. It might have been suggested at one time as a use for glory, but I think that was only in the "suggestions" stage and it didn't make it further.

Oh I saw Prestige Classes in Masks post so I thought that was going to be one of the many options. Sorry!

I came up with a prestige-class like idea. My idea, as outlined in my buiild request, involved the creation of a new guild that involved guild-specific items and abilities, and different requirements to join them. My particular guild example was based off the Cathshee Bladedancer Prestige class, but I'd like to see other guilds that add more variety to the game. And if you label these as Prestige classes, then each person could be restricted to having only one. I hope something like that can happen.

Please forgive, as I know these are all still just being kicked around:

Enchanting
  • I really love the idea of item evolution, but I'm curious if this would be made in lieu of possibly adding enchanting trade in-game? If so, I'd have to admit I'd rather have enchanting. However, if it is to have both options, I'd really like it.

One thing that was mentioned was adding a +1 to hit or damage. In D&D, when an item is enchanted to a specific state, it adds to both hit and damage modifiers.

I'd love to see item evolution take a different shape.
Example 1: wrote:For instance, I have a Soulhammer that I would like to have made adamantine to bypass the affects of Stoneskin. The core of the item can generally not be changed like this (that I'm aware of), so spending glory for this to occur would seem feasible.
Example 2: wrote:Grant Int, Wis, and Cha score to an item (all at once), thus making it intelligent. Normally, there is only a slim chance of an item becoming intelligent during enchantment (literally 1%!).
Cross-Class Skills
  • I really can't say I'm a fan of them. As Tieflings have shown us already, having sneak and hide as racial skills become ridiculously powerful over time. Imagine a wizard with gouge: casting spells and prayers uses up _no_ movement points. All they would need to do is spam gouge against another wizard since blindness is a Will save and they are very likely to win, even if they are a much weaker wizard.
Luck
  • If we're going to allow increases in this, I believe a few things should happen first:
  • Luck would need to be re-added to the Score Sheet.
  • A detailed helpfile of what and how luck affects.
I don't think it would be fair to players to offer them the chance to increase something they can't possibly know the benefit of (unless informed by the staff).
"Buy" entry to special quests
  • I think more quests need to be added.. a lot more quests before this sort of thing needs to be introduced. As-is, there are already a lot of restrictions placed on many quests such as statistic requirements, racial bans, alignment-specific (even if not actually coded), requires a ton of high-levels, or is simply impossible since the healing code changes.
"Buy" entry to special areas
  • Selveem gets to meet Tempus again?! Sign me up.. wait, is that a one-way ticket?
"Buy" attendance to special events
  • I'm not sure what was envisioned of this, but if it means events like Winterfest or Fighter Guild Championships? If so, I think there are so few events it would be unfair to impose that sort of requirement. I think there should be more epic quests like where Waukeen was freed.. Stuff like that encourages people to actually level up and utilize the game combat engine.
Special Pets/Minions
  • This wasn't listed, but I thought I'd throw this in. Special monsters such as Rust Monsters, Flesh Golems, Blink Dogs or the like!

There is an entire post Theleus created where the idea of True Reincarnation was debated under game suggestions.

I know. I think I posted the idea here and then decided it was a different topic deserving of it's own thread.

I'll review the list this evening and post. The revised list will NOT be officially approved. The point of this entire thread is to suggest revisions to the list. Please comment on the new list I post this evening. After those discussions run their course, I'll post another re-revised revision! Revolting isn't it?

Soon enough, we'll have a good, approved list and we can ask Marty to "make it so!" Prestige classes will not be on the list.

OK, I fibbed. I took care of some other issues and had to log off. I'll look over the list of Glory items and post a proposed cost soon (I WANT to say tomorrow, but I also don't want to back myself into a corner). In the meantime, if you have other suggestions to add to the list over the next 18 hours or so, please post them and I'll look them over as I revise the current list.

I think Mask said something about Pet Renames, which would be awesome. Though a store
that traded out your Glory for a 'special' pet would be neat too! Almost all of my characters
have a pet/mount that is a big part of their roleplay, so I would be a big fan of that addition!
