PC/Wii Games

Post by Mask » Sat Dec 04, 2010 3:06 pm

Howdy!

I wanted to get myself a new game or two for either the Wii or the PC and was wondering what people would recommend? My graphics card is not exactly top of the line, but the PC is a pretty new quad i5, so I guess I'm looking at games from a year or two ago?

Anyone got any killer recces?

Thanks!

Assassin's Creed
Weit in der Champagne im Mittsommergrün,
dort, wo zwischen Grabkreuzen Mohnblumen blühn,
da flüstern die Gräser und wiegen sich leicht
im Wind, der sanft über das Gräberfeld streicht.

Easy for the PC. Civilization 4 if you don't have it, 5 if you do have 4 already. Civ 4 was awesome.

As for the Wii, you can't go wrong with some stupid mindless fun of Mario Kart.

Civilization 5, Torchlight, and Team Fortress 2 are the ones I've been playing recently with high replay value. All on the PC. I don't think any of those are too hard to match PC specs with. I got them from Steam so I can play them on any PC.

I rather enjoyed it for the 360, and enjoy the second one as well.

Wii: Epic Mickey is worth a visit, it is a surprisingly unique experience.

PC: Any Assassin's Creed (1, 2, or Brotherhood). Mass Effect 2. Civilization 4. Fallout 3, Fallout New Vegas, or get a Steam account and surf through their sales/discounts for a good deal on older games.

If you are a Star Wars fan, and have not played the Knights of the Old Republic line - you're a mad man. There are two games in the run, and are both very cheap right now if you use "steam".

That run is in my all time top 3, just behind Civilization and Fallout.

Agree on all Assassin's Creed games... Loved it on the 360, the controls are much easier, and more well adapted in my opinion. The way they have set up the controls makes perfect sense, and it's very easy to work the maneuvers. Assassin's Creed 2 is my favorite... love the story line... but then again I haven't played Brotherhood yet.

Also, FEAR was released for the PC about 4 years ago, and is an awesome game, very well put together, and if you play in the dark will make you jump once or twice. Lol

I also went back to an old classic not too long ago, could easily be handled by your graphics card on ur PC American McGee's Alice... If you're more into the puzzle games... I found it in an old box about a month ago, and have been enjoying it in my free time lately.

Gross understatement. Either that, or you weren't playing with surround-sound emulating headphones. :P Pop some headphones on and I wanna see you jump only once or twice. If you can pull that off, I'm going to check your pulse to make sure you lived through them.

Thanks for all of the tips, it sounds like I must get one of the Assassin's Creed games, in addition to one of the newer Civ games - thankfully, Amazon has them for like EUR3 each ?! Fantastic! For the moment, I have (re-)installed Thief 3 and NWN 1 (+TOEE) to try and tickle my latent gamer gene.

Probably one of my favourite ever games was Planescape: Torment...and one of the earlier FF games, the one with Sephiroth? Anything else that immersive since? Mrs Mask is not so keen on the gameage, so need to be discrete on that front :)

For immersion you can't go wrong with Black Isle's (Interplay) other progeny of that same era as Planescape: Torment. Specifically the Baldur's Gate games, Fallout 1, and Fallout 2. Should all be dirt cheap and packaged in bundles (e.g. BG 1, ToS, BG 2, ToB). I think you'd particularly get a kick out of Fallout's eclectic sense of humor (everything from Mad Max to Star Trek to Monty Python to Godfather, etc.).

Yeah it is FF7

Still like to play that from time to time, although it's a little bit overrated and overshadows FF9 a bit

If your a fan of FF lets have your opinion....

Has it gone way downhill since 10? I personally think so because they have taken out alot of the bits that made them so great.
Rumour is though that 14 will be a throw back to the old ones, much like 9 was when 8 was a bit of a flop in the eyes of the fan
majority (but not me personally)

I stopped FF with the 7 which I thought very crappy and more of a interactive movies than a FF game...
But I'm a big fan of the 5 and 6 .. Kefka is the best villain ever for me.

If you like Civilization, there is also the spin off colonization that changes a bit and is more direct fast play.

Original Sid Meier's Colonization from 1998 (I think?) was great. Haven't tried the new one.
