Gloves too heavy

Half question, half bug. Should these gloves really be splint mail, a heavy armor type? Or something a little lighter, like studded leather, light armor? Seems out of place that the gloves are heavy armor when all other pieces, such as "mithril studded arm guards" and "leather armor with mithril trim" are light armor.
