Falling off horse still onehanded spear

Post by Tyhan » Sun Jan 16, 2011 7:46 am

I have noticed that while riding my horse, and falling off I still hold my two handed spear one handed, I am trained in mounted polearms (apprentice) and polearms(journeyman). I was wondering if this is a bug and if it is, is there any way to fix it? It may not be high priority but it kinda seems cheating to be able to do that.

It's intentional last I heard.

The way it's coded, you can dismount with the spear still wielded in one hand for training your mounted polearms in places like faith temples where mounts are generally not allowed.

Tyhan: You are forced to remove the weapon when you type 'dismount' (anywhere, at any time) and this will force you to only wield the weapon one-handed when mounted. I tested this and confirmed that it does not happen when you fall off of your mount. This should not be happening. You should be forced to unequip your weapon when you dismount for any reason. Thanks for reporting it!

Well, instead of making you unequip your weapon, becuase I only fall off during battle why not make you unequip your shield if you have on and make it go to two handed? Is there anyway that can happen? That way your not defenseless.

What about making it so it forces you to unequip a shield and reequip your spear so its two handed so your only defenseless for a round instead of many rounds if you dont catch you falling off? Any way to do that?

Sorry, finally getting caught up on this family of posts. Problem still exists, you retain a polearm as a mounted polearm if you fall off (but not if you dismount).

Tyhan's suggestion seems sound here - rather than forcing un-equip of polearm, cause unequip of both hands and then automatic equip of the polearm. Anyone see a fault in that plan?

It sounds fine, though I always imagined that you don't drop your shield because its strapped to your wrist.
Justice is not neccesarily honourable, it is a tolerable business, in essence you tolerate honour until it impedes justice, then you do what is right.

Spelling is not necessarily correct :)

Not necessarily. It could be tied around your neck or you could just be holding the enarmes (leather straps fastened to the shield's back) or a bar with a recessed grip just behind the shield's boss.

My point is only that it's probably not worth trying to predict how the rider was wearing his shield.

Mounted polearms

Post by Cret » Mon May 28, 2012 1:52 am

It seems if you are holding a mounted polearm in 1 hand.. and fall from the mount. You still retain the polearm in 1 hand. If you dismount, you are forced to remove the weapon from on hand.

Code is in place to address this when you dismount - I think we just need to apply that same code to falling off your steed. I can't check from this computer, so I'll have to double-confirm this is the case later, and then this will have to kick up to Mask.
