Wraiths level-draining without striking?

Post by Selveem » Sun Apr 10, 2011 11:24 pm

You attack a wraith as he gets within your weapon's reach.
Your slash nearly bisects a wraith's abdomen.
A wraith is stunned, but will probably recover.
You weave out of the way of a wraith's punch.
You have just lost a level!

Szrenzil just lost a really hard-earned level from this stupid wraith that didn't even hit him. Reminds me of the ghast that was stunning even without striking.

FK wraiths drain levels by using the Enervation spell, not by hitting you. Previously, players could actually see the spell being cast on them. This was removed, most likely because the level drain is supposed to be an ability of the wraith, not a spell. Chances are, he hit you with Enervation with no visible spellcasting taking place.

To compare to D&D wraiths, D&D wraiths must hit you with a melee touch attack in order to drain you, but they deal constitution drain instead of level drain. Also, I'm not sure if FK wraiths give you any kind of save against their level draining whereas D&D wraiths have a somewhat low fortitude save against their con drain (DC 14).
