Race Requests
Race Requests
I'd like to make some requests for new races and some changes to existing races, to fit with what I'm working on. I will probably have several so I figure this is as good a place to post them as any. I suppose if this is a good idea, others could post race requests and changes here as well.
1. Mole - A standard mole race, should have darkvision
2. Dire Mole - Don't know if this exists but if it did I'd use it!
3. Deep Rothe - Somewhere between the size of a pig and a cow, an Underdark herd animal, should have darkvision.
4. Night Hunter
The evil batlike creatures called night hunters have 7-foot wingspans and sharp triangular tails. They can see in the dark at a greater distance even than drow, and instead of using sound to navigate in the dark, their eerie screams are used to strike fear into prey. They are sometimes domesticated and make aggressive pets, and both surface dwellers and drow have taken them as familiars. They are sometimes called dragazars in honor of Dragazar, the first adventurer who was known to have tamed one. They fight with a bite and follow up with slashes with the tail. Night hunters are described in Monster Compendium: Monsters of Faerûn.
5. Shrew - Like a mouse but with darkvision
In addition I need to request the addition of darkvision to shriekers, as an Underdark race that is supposed to react to other things based on their fungus senses or whatever, but when it can't see them, generally doesn't.
If anyone can affect these changes that would be helpful, or let me know how I can do it myself! Thanks!

You already have the night hunter.
Mole would be what? rat with dig and blindsight? or more like weasel + dig and blindsight? I have no idea about the real size of a mole...
Shrieker:
The fact is, they have low light vision in DnD and reacts to light.
Now, on thing that could be nice is to add different light level to underdark rooms, dark, low_light, light, bright light.
I think it would be a better improvement than changing the race files and keep the race files as close as possible to DnD.
I'll petition the head to have the rothe and shrew added as soon as humanly possible, considering that is the beginning of 2nd year for our son today and that
she's even more shaken than him to leave his big boy to the bad hag teacher

Re: Race Requests
If we add varying levels of light to the Underdark then we'll have to go through the entire game adding a flag to every room we want to put them in. Is it possible that for the shrieker that has maybe 4 different mobs in the game, all in the Underdark, that we simply switch low-light vision to darkvision?
As for the moles, they should be about the size of a guinea pig I'd say. Their dexterity should be much less than a rat or a weasel. Dig and blind-fighting, sure. Just need them to have darkvision too so they can operate in what our game has for dark environments.

Re: Race Requests
If we're requesting in relation to races, might owls get dark vision?
Follow your heart, yes.. but use your head, too. Take to every task with zeal and passion, but try to pair it with sage and discerning execution.

Re: Race Requests
Owls have low light vision like the vast majority of animals.
They do not see in complete darkness (much like 99% of bat contrary to popular belief).
Just my point of view.

Re: Race Requests
I actually had an interesting conversation with my brother (a wildlife biologist who specializes in birds) this weekend about owls. Their highly developed hearing allows them to hunt in total darkness; it is not echo location as a bat's ability, but very sensitive hearing.

Re: Race Requests
Yeah, that's why I think that despite many races not having darkvision, it makes sense to grant it to them on a case-by-case basis. On FK, our only sense is sight. It's impossible for mobs to react by hearing or smelling or anything else. So while a shrieker or some other mob might have low-light vision according to the Monster Manual, we need to base things on their effects and utilize the code we have at hand.
Re: Race Requests
I concur.

Re: Race Requests
Should I pass through all underdark races and make sure they can "see" some way or another in the dark, then?

Re: Race Requests
Would probably be a good idea... I'd be interested in exactly which Underdark races we have coded too. When we did the Underdark Wilderness area, we had to add darkvision to a lot of mobs who didn't have it before so they could wander as groups, otherwise people couldn't follow their leader mobs.
Re: Race Requests
Not sure if this is still active, but figured I'd post here anyways.
Could I request the following? I'd be willing to write up the initial race file, subject to review and revisions.
Tendriculos: http://www.d20srd.org/srd/monsters/tendriculos.htm
Assassin vine: http://www.d20srd.org/srd/monsters/assassinVine.htm
