Common trainer in Skullport that also speaks darkspeak
Common trainer in Skullport that also speaks darkspeak
So I have run into this before, and more recently it has stood out again with the language thing happening, but would it be possible to implement something on this?
I know Darkspeak, and being on the surface, I have wandered all over the place, even know this is a difficult place to start, and haven't seem to come upon a common trainer. Everyone tells me, I can't understand you.
So my thought is: Maybe someone in SP, a book keeper, or someone could teach this, it could even have a quest or dialog to learn it, and give you the advantage to focus on where you are going on the surface, instead of looking for a language teacher.
What do you think?

I have also noticed this on multiple characters. It becomes impossible to train from anyone who knows common and doesn't know darkspeak, and I also agree that it should be made available as a trainable language in Skullport.

Especially since, from what I've seen, common seems to be very widely used in Skullport.

Re: Common trainer in Skullport that also speaks darkspeak
I'll go through Skullport and make sure there are common trainers and re-check what languages clerks there use today. Update when it's fixed.
Re: Common trainer in Skullport that also speaks darkspeak
Sheila Kells the caravan master now trains common, speaking both darkspeak and common. This should be fixed the next time there's a copyover on the main game port.

Chris - it might be worth it to check for level trainers, also. It might be me, hence I say check not add, but I spent seriously an hour just looking for a trainer to get me to 10!
Beshaba potatoes.
Re: Common trainer in Skullport that also speaks darkspeak
Yeah, Skullport level trainers, I don't think there are any from my own experiences, I added one to Skull Caverns. I will rectify this forthwith.
Re: Common trainer in Skullport that also speaks darkspeak
There are i think several level trainers in and around Skullport proper.

I just checked and there were no level trainers in lower skullport, central skullport, or Haroloth Magthere. I added some, but you'll have to look around! Check for them the next time the game port resets.
Re: Common trainer in Skullport that also speaks darkspeak
There was definitely never 'several'! Thanks Chris!

Thank you so very much! This will make Skullport a little more user friendly even if we have to hunt!
Re: Common trainer in Skullport that also speaks darkspeak
I'd go so far as to say that most of the clerks in Skullport should know deepspeech/undercommon. Right now 9/10 either know common and nothing else or gnome and nothing else. I don't really see why an Underdark city would be using common more than it's native language, especially merchants who sell to a wide variety of people.
If you start a PC who can't learn any more languages, you still can't learn anything beyond the training pits.

Er, are you sure about this? My PC can't speak Darkspeak...and can't communicate with almost anyone down there. Did you mean to say they should be able to speak surface common? I believe almost all of them currently DO speak Darkspeak (and nothing else).Necalli wrote:I'd go so far as to say that most of the clerks in Skullport should know deepspeech/undercommon. Re: Common trainer in Skullport that also speaks darkspeak
This used to be true but it is no longer true. Every vendor in Skullport should speak darkspeak, in addition to some other languages from time to time, though usually nothing but darkspeak. In the past, at least several months ago now, Skullport had a much more motley mish-mash of languages and one would need at least 9 or so to communicate with every vendor down there, but I can assure it's no longer the case.
Re: Common trainer in Skullport that also speaks darkspeak
Yes. I rolled a gnome priest in Skullport about... I'd say a week ago, and the only languages he knew were Gnomish and Undercommon. When attempting to learn from various vendors (mainly the ones that teach things like meditate, spellcraft, and concentration) they always replied with a garbled, "I can't understand you.". Also, most, if not all, of the gnomish NPCs only speak gnomish.Raona wrote:Er, are you sure about this?
Just about all of the NPCs that teach anything relevant to wizards/priests only speak common:
The component merchant only speaks common.
The Librams woman that sells books and teaches a few things useful to priests/wizards only speaks common.
The Three Sisters NPCs only speak common.
