Speech echo truncation

Post by Raona » Thu Dec 08, 2011 12:02 pm

This doesn't seem pervasive, but on several occasions I've had speech echoes cut off (on both ports, on multiple PCs):

An orc gate guard says to you 'Ouse wanna get in d'
An orc gate guard says to you 'It be costin' ouse t'ree gold fo' d'
An orc gate guard says to you 'An' no funny'
A sentry in the watchtower trains his crossbow

On another PC:
An orc gate guard says to you 'We no lets panzies in d'

Others have reported seeing this as well, though not consistently (at least across many mobs). It may hinge on the language spoken by the mob, something to do with the language garbler?

Are others seeing this, and if so, with any permanence or pattern? Does the same NPC always do it?

I have also noticed this, it's not just you. I'd only seen it once and figured it might have been an error, but in doing a few other quests, I've seen a few of them cutting off.

No, this happens elsewhere also for say, sayto, and mpecho commands. I tried to adjust the code on an area to mitigate it without success; it appears that just a copyover will restore some, but not all of it.

This seems specific to certain area code files? Specifically, the Orc Camp: it is generating a lot of qbit set errors and the like whenever someones is in there, suggesting that the problem truncates the operation of all lines, including commands. PCs may wish to steer clear of areas exhibiting this problem lest they end up with some odd qbit settings (i.e., broken quests). If you notice this problem anywhere outside of the Orc Camp, please report it here. Thanks folks!

The gate guards in eaglepeak.are do it also.

Edited for clarity: This does not appear to interrupt the intended function.

Winston in Daggerford did this to me the other day. Was able to complete all things attached to him though with no trouble.

I recall it happening to me with a mob in Waterdeep. May have also happened in Silverymoon with a merchant mob. If that helps any.

It has not affected the Silverymoon quest as it was completed. I will report back with the Waterdeep quest when I get home. I can't remember for the life of me.
