'Skip tutorial' option if the character is not the first
'Skip tutorial' option if the character is not the first
As the topic says. I want to try playing a wizard or a cleric but I don't want to go through the tutorial again.
Could a 'skip' option be added, that would place you in the Font of Knowledge waiting for your name and desc to be accepted?

Re: 'Skip tutorial' option if the character is not the first
You're given an option to skip the tutorial already. It may not be present for the first character, as you say, but it's definitely there for subsequent ones.

Just started an alt the other day and it still presents the option. Can't remember the exact wording but it gives you a Yes / No option of going to the Newbie Temple.

Confirmed. In character creation you choose sex, race then class. Then you pick your stats (either standard or customised). One the weapon appears in your inventory, you are give the option:
If you choose No, you are automatically placed directly into the Font.Would you like to visit the newbie training area?
(A) Yes (B) No
.
By choosing "No", you will forfeit equipment and other rewards.
Re: 'Skip tutorial' option if the character is not the first
Okay, will try it later.
Why does skipping training mean not getting clothes and money? Weird. Why should a character run around naked?

Re: 'Skip tutorial' option if the character is not the first
Because, as it states, if you decide to skip you, you miss out on rewards and other good benefits of going through the "training zone". Why should you be able to have gear for not doing anything? If you skip everything that gives you the rewards, you should have nothing.

Aldren is correct. It is a pure cost vs. benefit decision.
Re: 'Skip tutorial' option if the character is not the first
The thread is getting off-topic, but if I might be allowed to indulge a little as well, I'd like to present my stance on the matter:
I'm inclined to agree with Trillarel.
Just because you decide not to go through a tutorial that you've already seen three or more times before, you don't even get to start off with clothes? It seems a bit silly. Why would all characters start off naked and without money (can't remember if the tutorial's what gives you the gold coin or not)?
Additionally, all starting characters are supposed to start with a certain amount of wealth as a level one. This is evident even in the player's handbook:

Re: 'Skip tutorial' option if the character is not the first
This is a moot debate. The newbie process will be overhauled completely very soon. The new starting area is complete and on the shelf, ready to go; I am only finishing the supporting quest area.

Re: 'Skip tutorial' option if the character is not the first
I'm not saying a character should get a benefit for skipping the tutorial. However, s/he should get clothes and those gold coins from Mirt. 1 platinum IIRC is a quest reward, so s/he skips on it, but he should be getting the rest.
Note that I haven't actually skipped the tutorial with any of my characters, so I don't know how much is skipped in terms of equipment. I'd have to start another alt to check that.
Maybe it's a good thing I can't get around to writing a review of FK for a Polish RPG site...
EDIT: Yaay!!!

For the record right now - it's based on kismet whether you can skip or not. Sometimes when I drain my kismet out for a shiny alt I am not allowed to skip also. :)
But like Harro said, moot. It will be fancified soon.

Well if you'd stop deleting your not-as-shiny alts, you wouldn't need to waste more kismet!Mele wrote:For the record right now - it's based on kismet whether you can skip or not. Sometimes when I drain my kismet out for a shiny alt I am not allowed to skip also.
