'Sense'
'Sense'
A curious phenomenon I've been seeing more and more of recently is people using the term 'sense' to indicate whether or not people are online (eg. "We need a strong warrior, but I cannot sense Sir Boris!").
Please remember that our characters don't have special abilities to sense what people are doing from afar, and the magical amulets of communication don't afford us super-senses either! By all means tell people that you don't seem to be able to contact someone (it's assumed that the recipient's sleeping, not wearing an amulet or otherwise just unattainable), but please don't pretend to be that guy at the end of Starship Troopers who takes great pleasure in triumphantly announcing "IT'S AFRAID!". I'm afraid you're just not that cool.

No one is as cool as Neil Patrick Harris.
And I agree 1,000,000% with Lathlain's observation. Just say you can't reach them on your amulet, we're not all psychics or telepaths.

Yes, yes he was. And he is awesome.
I'm going to jump on the boat that everyone who can't 'sense' are just jealous of others abilities to.
Joking aside, thanks for posting this and a suggestion. I'm guilty of saying sense and what have you and your offered suggestion is what I'm gonna shamelessly steal.

Re: 'Sense'
I don't sense people. I just have no idea where they are, or haven't seen them.

Re: 'Sense'
Wasn't there some echo containing "sense" when you wore, turned on, or turned off your amulet?
Maybe that's where the idea originated from.

You increase your amulet's sensitivity to the weave.
At once, the echo of whispers hum inside your mind.
You reduce your amulet's sensitivity to the weave.
The constant whispers in your mind disappear completely, to be replaced by blessed quiet.
