true sight

Post by Orplar » Sun Mar 25, 2012 3:03 am

Hey all,

was just wonder if True Sight had been changed at all. I dont seem to be able to see into any rooms adjacent to mine with it active.

I can't reproduce this problem on the testport. Anyone (else/still) experiencing it?

Just to confirm this, it appears then true sight does not allow you to look into other rooms as inherent darkvision does.

Just as a follow-up to this, the reason you cannot see into other rooms is because true sight may only offer 30ft of darkvision, and not 60. Otherwise, true sight works fine in the room you're currently in.

Another update:

True sight does indeed grant darkvision at 30ft.

It also allows ASCII coloring for some reason, so it may be a mix of darkvision and light without the light.

It's up to the staff on how they would like this spell changed, if at all, as it appears to be coded from 2nd edition, but named from 3.5e.

I keep bringing this up, because I would love to have a way to see in the dark past 30ft (mostly so I can see if I'm being snuck up on in the dark). Below I have attached both 2nd edition and 3.5e spells.

2nd Ed:
True Seeing
Divination
Level: Clr 5, Drd 7, Knowledge 5, Sor/Wiz 6
Components: V, S, M
Casting Time: 1 standard action
Range: Touch
Target: Creature touched
Duration: 1 min./level
Saving Throw: Will negates (harmless)
Spell Resistance: Yes (harmless)
You confer on the subject the ability to see all things as they actually are. The subject sees through normal and magical darkness, notices secret doors hidden by magic, sees the exact locations of creatures or objects under blur or displacement effects, sees invisible creatures or objects normally, sees through illusions, and sees the true form of polymorphed, changed, or transmuted things. Further, the subject can focus its vision to see into the Ethereal Plane (but not into extradimensional spaces). The range of true seeing conferred is 120 feet.

True seeing, however, does not penetrate solid objects. It in no way confers X-ray vision or its equivalent. It does not negate concealment, including that caused by fog and the like. True seeing does not help the viewer see through mundane disguises, spot creatures who are simply hiding, or notice secret doors hidden by mundane means. In addition, the spell effects cannot be further enhanced with known magic, so one cannot use true seeing through a crystal ball or in conjunction with clairaudience/clairvoyance.

Material Component
An ointment for the eyes that costs 250 gp and is made from mushroom powder, saffron, and fat.

---------------

3.5e: Truesight
Truesight
Divination
Level: Sor/Wiz 2, Cleric 2
Components: V,S
Casting time: Standard Action
Range: Personal or Touch
Target: One target
Duration: 1 min per level
Saving Throw: None (harmless)
Spell Resistance: Yes

When you cast this spell on a creature it ignores the effects of invisibility, gains low-light vision, and a bonus of +2 to Spot and Sense Motive checks.
