Leaving Skullport
Leaving Skullport
Just wondering, since it's a bit tricky getting back to Skullport (and since I scoured the place pretty well, and couldn't find a trainer for second attack, thus somewhat forcing me to leave around level 14) if a message at the docks, IE the person who sells the tokens, wouldn't be ill advised? Something simple, to the effect of:
"OOC: Warning, leaving Skullport is a much simpler task than returning. While it can be done, it may take some time, so be sure you're done here for a while before you go!"
Thanks =D

Re: Leaving Skullport
It's actually very simple for someone from Skullport to get back to it. :) Search ICly and find out!
Beshaba potatoes.
Re: Leaving Skullport
There's also a trainer for second attack open to anyone in an area attached to Skullport so looks like you're 0/2
Re: Leaving Skullport
If I could, I'd never leave Skullport. Its like Monaco in the thirties. Intrigue!

Re: Leaving Skullport
I have been seeking. Actively. But people want to extort the information, or speak in riddles. I think 'easy' is relative. I'm not saying it's un-doable, just that it would have been nice to have some warning.Mele wrote:It's actually very simple for someone from Skullport to get back to it. Search ICly and find out!
As to finding Second Attack, maybe I'm wrong, but I looked pretty hard to find it. I found third attack from -several- instructors. If it's in an attached area, is that area accessible for someone at level 13, when you get the skill? Not trying to be smarmy, unlike some people.
However, I still don't think the warning would be terribly untoward. Just because you, as staff, know exactly where it is, doesn't mean it's 'easy' for someone to find their way back. Especially given that it's not exactly IC to go around spouting that you're from Skullport to most people. Granted, lying about why you need to go there isn't difficult, but people become quickly suspicious, and so you still have to tread carefully. Which is fine, and I like it, it's all part of the RP. But please don't simply say it's 'easy' to do, when my character has been actively trying to do so for nearly a week now, and has been unable to.
*Edit: Correction, you're right. I did find one 'easy' way to get back. However, it's also a very expensive way for a lower level character. 4-5 hours of cash grinding.
Re: Leaving Skullport
Who doesn't enjoy extortion and riddles? Those are good times.

I'm probably thinking of the wrong area, but I thought the skills trained there were only for membership?Solaghar wrote:There's also a trainer for second attack open to anyone in an area attached to Skullport so looks like you're 0/2
As for getting back to Skullport there are lots of ic ways to do it, but you do have to be prepared to pay for some unless you are appealing to a character that is keen to give the information in exchange for nothing. I'd recommend using the in game noteboard to find someone willing, or even offering prayer to a patron to earn a chance to go home. Speaking as someone that almost went eight years without a way into skullport, a place that was until recently very difficult to enter but has been gentled a bit allowing for more access, the price and effort are worth it.

Re: Leaving Skullport
There is indeed a simple way to return to Skullport, with no need for 4-5 hours of cash grinding. It is quite commonly known among the playerbase IC. While in this case, my 'Staff' tag does come with immortal status, most members are not immortals. Please think the best of advice given and not assume it's from a perspective of bias. We are aware that some things are not commonly known, and I would not call something simple were it not. In this case, I gained this knowledge years before my immortal status in character. I can promise you would inevitably stumble upon a person who knew, but not that they will not speak riddles or require a task or money for this knowledge. It's all perspective of character and roleplay.
Offering the peek of in character information at all is a means of help - to give you hope on your active character while your suggestion is discussed and potentially implemented. It is not a means to speak against the suggestion but an effort of aid where you are finding trouble. Just a simple statement to shine the light at the end of the tunnel. Perhaps the note would even include encouragement to ask around ic about your options to return to SP.

That's an excellent idea, Gwain. I don't use the in game board terribly much. I -have- been making IC efforts, as you well know. =P I've even been asking people to keep their eyes out for the subject matter I was told to look for that would help me get back to SP. I just haven't come across it (again) yet. But I -know- I've seen the dang thing. >.<Gwain wrote:I'd recommend using the in game noteboard to find someone willing,
While I recognize that you can pray to patrons, even before you're faithed, my faith quest requires that I be in Skullport.Gwain wrote:or even offering prayer to a patron to earn a chance to go home.
Yeah, it's not the effort that I'm having difficulties with. I really don't mind putting in the time, despite what some people want to suggest (on topics not limited to this one).Gwain wrote:Speaking as someone that almost went eight years without a way into skullport, a place that was until recently very difficult to enter but has been gentled a bit allowing for more access, the price and effort are worth it.
I actually REALLY appreciate that this game encourages you to go exploring, even for skills and such. I just find that -I- have been having difficulties with obtaining the information ICly. To simply state something is 'easy' is to oversimplify it. Yes, getting back is easy, if you have the information. Obtaining the information, from whatever source, isn't as simple as just walking up to someone and saying, "Hey, how do I get from point a to point b" and expecting a straight answer. Which, again, is fine. But, the number of people who know ICly doesn't seem to be as high as Mele is suggesting. Mele: The fact you found out years ago could also be indicative of it being a time when the game was much more active. Yes, SOME people still know. I'm not arguing that. But isn't it also possible that the character in question just hasn't happened to have met with anyone that was willing to part with the information? (Which, actually, he did, but the RP/negotiations got complicated.. however, I haven't given up. I am still ACTIVELY working on it. I do appreciate the suggestion, but I dislike the false assumption that I wasn't making those efforts prior to your comment)
Re: Leaving Skullport
That assumption you're assuming I'd assumed had never even crossed my mind. :) Face value comment not to give up, that it IS there. I suppose I'll have to be more detailed in the future! :)

Hey, you know what they say about assuming...
