Happy Independence Day
Happy Independence Day
Happy Independence Day to my fellow Americans. Enjoy today, but take time to be grateful also to those patriots who lost so much for the sake of your (now diminishing) individual liberties while in battle with the most professional, feared army of their day.

I feel much as you do Harroghty. I was coming here to post a link for a video that I really love, that talks a little about -why- we declared independence (Hint, it wasn't so we could set of fireworks every year).
Edit (forgot the video): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uZfRaWAtBVg
If you want to truly celebrate your liberty and freedom, do so by taking a vow to not neglect them. We live in an age today where media and the internet gives us the ability to be more connected than ever before in the history of history, and yet fewer people today are aware of what's going on with their own next door neighbors, let alone in other countries.
I think we need to remember those who DID fight bravely for our Freedom. A Freedom that was largely centered around a right to practice religious beliefs as we saw fit. And to remember that now, we've come to being on the other side of that coin. Tyrants with the most professional, feared army of our day, who are trying to force our religious beliefs on others. To not acknowledge this is to disrespect those who fought to give us what we have.

I have seen that video and I like it; thanks for posting. This is not really the place to wade into politics (we are here to play a fantasy game and I apologize for starting it with my inability to avoid making an individual liberties jab), but I will recommend a few movies to you in turn.

Hey, just being able to have these kinds of discussions is one of the reasons America is so great. Democrats or Republicans, DH or no DH, mayo or miracle whip, pepsi or coke...it doesn't matter what side of the coin you prefer, you are still an American. Happy Independence Day!

Well, I mean.. I mean technically, since other people in other countries can see this board, they could have this kind of discussion too. But hey! Row row fight the power!
