Everyone should be given the chance to back out/be warned off, this is part of the clear ooc warning. Algon has it right, this means the Malarite in his example has a chance to remove themselves without incident, but does not mean they can stay and still avoid clearly warned pk.

I have been seeing a lot of double standards in the PK issue lately.
If you are putting yourself out there RP creating a hostile situation, you seriously cannot expect people to hold a straight face while you back out of the impending PVP that is a direct result of your actions and try to OOC ask to be left alone. In other words, I think I can safely speak for the majority when I state that If you are creating an RP that practically requires the other person to act on your actions in a hostile manner, you cannot complain if they then act that out. Now, if someone is looking for a fight by pushing buttons and trying to get a response out of you so they feel justified in fighting you, you always have the option to not play their game. Just walk away. There really should be no complaining if you try to stand your ground and push back on them, because you are basically giving your consent for them to act out their RP and you are also engaging it your own RP against them. You are actually further developing your characters' belief system when you do this, which is a good thing if your character walks that path. You should also never use your lower level to feel justified in pushing someone's buttons because it is just not fair level wise for them to push back. Your RP has consequences, there are no free rides. This is not a high PVP mud and never will be, so those that are engaged in high PVP are actively seeking it out by their RP choices, it is never really forced upon anyone. I don't really think the issue is about our PK system, I think it is just about an understanding of what RP is. RP is essentially the acting out of the personality of your character and performing actions in agreement with their ideology and ethos, along with the secondary things like getting their speaking style and personal habits to be consistent.
Just my two cents for a very rainy day.

Based on some of these replies, I feel like I've been playing a completely different game.
It's not been many events, and from my understanding they were out of line with the general game, so I suppose there's no issues here except my perception of it.

If a Malarite walks into Ardeep and starts trouble...if you are warned its about to be a PK situation, you have two choice...Run away or fight. There is not, I am going to stay here, but I don't agree to a PK.
Very well said, and this up up to the integrity of the player to deem such a situation warranted.... I often give several warnings.. " Do this, and _____ will happen"

The only major issue I have with some of the PK situations I have seen lately, is high level and power characters, hanging out in what are very clearly lowbe level areas. One area in particular is a place made for level 10 - 20 characters and many new players find their way there. I really consider it bad form to hang around and do things to character so much lower than your level.
I myself had something happen within on such area. On a level 12 character, someone was invis a room away casting sorrows at me. I consider this extremely bad form and had I any clue who had done this, there would have been a complaint sent in for this.
The bottom line is this. Don't "Hunt" low level characters on your level 50 power mage just to be donkey. This is no fun for anyone involved, except the person who has no chance of losing.
