As a (possible maybe someday) hopeful of the Merciful Sword, I like the upturned sword image, but would like to somehow work more...mercy...into it. Perhaps a dove perched on the hilt, as in "An upright sword with a dove upon it" or a "dove and a sword" for short?

I like it. The dove adds a nice touch to it. Also does anyone disagree with Paladins of Ilmater wearing platemail or chainmail?

Paladins of Ilmater would definately wear platemail or chainmail. More than likely plate, as that's the standard fair for pally's. But I agree with Bugoron, that Ilmateri might opt for chainmail because of the discomfort factor. I see a paladin wearing plate but a priest wearing chainmail.
Also, the official symbol for the Holy Warriors of Suffering is a purple crocus flower. Most Ilmateri orders, whether paladin, monk, or a random order use a flower as their symbol.

I've always imaged the Order of the Golden Lion having a symbol that such as:
A golden lion rampant
A lion rampant is the symbol you see often of a lion on its back legs, standing up with its paws out (I'm sure you've seen Narnia so you have a good idea of what I'm talking about).
Anyway, I've just started to be able to play again so sorry for my delayed response. If its too late to code that then its fine.
