[MATERIALS] outsider_hide, dragon_hide

Post by Alvirin » Fri Aug 20, 2010 1:04 am

In order to diversify and increase the utility of the leatherworking trade, I propose the creation of the following materials

outsider hide; hide coming from outsiders be it creatures like salamanders or even "inhabitants" of the planes like demons, devils.

benefit: armor made of this hide is lighter than normal leather and also more durable.

dragon hide (includes wyverns):

benefit: armor made of this hide is automatically of masterwork type regardless of the skill of the crafter (assuming he is able to craft the chosen piece of armor)

I can't see why a material would make an automatic masterwork armor...

Besides, do you know what a Masterwork armor does? It only gives you -1 to armor check penalty... nothing more :P

But in order to enchant an item it has to be masterwork, that's the only real benefits of it :P

Yeah, I agree.

I get that you state it because that's the way in the handbook, however Mithral (Mithril in FK for some reason), Adamantite, and Elven Singing Steel is not automatically Masterwork in FK. I don't see any reason why the accommodation would be made for leathers.

Yes, but also from the SRB
Dragonhide armor costs double what masterwork armor of that type ordinarily costs, but it takes no longer to make than ordinary armor of that type.
So, actually, why not but then this has to be taken into account too :)

And most importantly, regular leather gets damaged a lot, less that cloth/silk. But also those who wear leather are also expected to be in more intense hand-to-hand combat for longer time than a wizard :D
