Zombies and more zombies

Animate dead is a great spell and the core of the necromancy proffesion , what i would like to do is extend its usefulness a little bit.

Currently you can animate pretty much anything with a corpse however they all turn into pretty much generic zombies. What i would like is the ability to fine tune the type of zombie you make.

To start with just one extra type, a zombie mount.

Only real difference is that a zombie mount would be rideable and would count against your allowed number of mounts rather than the generic minion total.

Making a normal zombie or a mount should be a choice when you make cast the spell.

If this works out maybe add some more types as the players skill with animate dead increases ?

Putting aside my rants about getting the components for this spell...

Here's an idea:

cast 'animate dead' target type

Type: Mount, humanoid, monstrous.

Mount: A skeletal mount, much like a horse skeleton, horse attack patterns.
Humanoid: Basic humanoid zombie, medium size, punches attacks only.
Monstrous: Multiple attack zombie, large size, bite + 2 claw attacks.

Enjoy...

why not make a permeant undead mount instead of trying to find a perfectly good horse to kill?

Limits options of creativity.

This is a MUD that is defined by Code, but if the code is very flexible to offer many options, more characters can express themselves and can attempt to not all look like clones. :)

Its all about the look it of it. Why ride a simple zombie horse when you can seek out and slay a unicorn and slay and animate that to really annoy the goodies !.

Yeah, that's cool. As long as you leave Deiros and Veiros out of the equation. :)

When Kaaurk was 'younger' he animated his worg that a goodie had killed and was very disappointed he couldn't ride it. lol So I think this would be an awesome idea to implement into the game

Agreed... Zombies ROCK! Instead of feeding them carrots... have to feed them fleshies... :-) And Remember... Cardio.

I think this be a good idea for glorys. So much for a undead mount?

Nah, no glory cost. That would just restrict it even more than it already is.

I like the idea though. Not only would it allow the necromancer a variety of undead, but could possibly be a fix for the undead constitution/stamina situation.

There would have to be limits though... I would say anything above a "humanoid class" undead would count towards the minion limit. That would limit necromancers to one undead mount, one undead pet/bodyguard and as many lesser animations as the necromancer can afford to create and control.

I don't personally see any reason for this to have a glory requirement. It's just furthering the abilities of a spell that's already in game. This would benefit anyone who used it, not just one person. It shouldn't be overly difficult to change the spell to give more options for undead servants.

No glory costs, the spell is already rarely used as it is. This change would merely up its usage. Plus the component costs, and rarity, keep it managable.

After some thought, we could adjust the conjure elemental code to fit a revised version... replacing the element at the end of the command with the undead 'type'. At least, if it is coded like I think.

It is not an overly powerful spell anyways. Even if components were made readily available, there are higher level spells -both divine and arcane- that can easily deal with undead.

I'd like to bump this one....

What are the chances of making it so mountable things can be slain and animated?

Thanks
