Ghoul Fever issues:

Post by Selveem » Wed Oct 06, 2010 3:08 am

Not sure if the saves are actually working properly, but anytime any of my characters fights the Ghouls that are coded to cause Ghoul Fever, without fail it is always contracted by them regardless of how high their fortitude is.

Additionally, if you are hit with it more than once, if you cure it as soon as you get it, another instance of it can hit you later. Can it be set so that one 'cure disease' also wipes out any future incubations of it?

I don't have the time to delve into this very deeply right now, these stinking ghouls are putting me behind on everything else. But I hope this helps some:

It looks like you are "incubated" with ghoul fever when you are bitten by a ghoul or ghast. When the incubation timer runs out, you contract the disease. Bites from the same beastie do not create new incubation instances, as best I can tell, but if you are bitten by a ghast and then a ghoul, you can end up with two incubation instances of Ghoul Fever, each with a different timer. I think this is how you can end up contracting the disease, curing it, and then contracting it again a short time thereafter. As per the helpfile, Cure Disease does not halt incubation. That seems to me a bit steep, but perhaps there's a reason for it of which I am unaware. For now, cast Cure Disease after suffering the fever for a while, hopefully such that multiple incubations have run their course and none remain like ticking time bombs by the time you are cured.

Anyone see any reason that Cure Disease should not stop/end incubation of diseases? (i.e. Stop you from contracting a disease before it actually manifests)

Well, technically you cannot have more than one instance of the same disease at once. You can't 'incubate a disease' while 'the same disease' is being incubated. It's the same disease. When you cure the disease it's gone. As to specifics behind curing the disease before incubation has passed, I don't believe D&D makes special accommodations for the incubation period like the MUD does.

I don't see any reason for the prayer not to help stop the growth of the disease, really. It would be like taking a rabies shot after being bit, or a tetanus shot after a puncture wound on a rusty nail.
Your punch viciously hammers a shark's abdomen.
A shark is stunned, but will probably recover.
