Leatherworking/armorsmithing expansion

Just a couple ideas I had. Here goes. Could leatherworking be expanded to create saddles, saddle blankets, and saddlebags, and could armorsmithing be expanded for player made barding, saddlechests, and horseshoes?

Barding was a craftable by armorsmiths, once upon a time. Gilain crafted quite a few sets over the years for folks. It, along with most containers, did not make the cut when we shifted over to the new crafting system. I cannot remember the reasons, off-hand, though. Maybe someone that has better memory than me could answer...

I don't see why players wouldn't be able to make these though, they are pretty much just armor for horses. Shouldn't we be able to make things for our four-legged friends too? Just my thought.

*AGREES ON BARDING!*
As for Saddles, it WOULD be cool to use leathersmithing to make saddles.

One used to be able to make leather barding. Not anymore?

A number of craftables, like barding and woodworking containers, were not carried over into the new crafting system. I cannot recall the reasons we discussed on testport when we decide it. That is a question better left for Mask, or anyone with a better memory than me that was on at that time.
Not saying folks cannot ask for new ones or old ones to return, go for it. Merely trying to explain what happened.

I always thought it was issues with layering. I remember things like wooden scabbards only wearable as belts. If that is the case I could see the problem.

I'd also like to see engraving added to trades. maybe as a free feat for reaching expert or master level in a trade? Then you could etch special designs and such into your crafted items with stencils, for example turning player made items from, as an example, Mithril Tower Shield into a Mithril Towershield engraved with a Foaming Mug. Maybe in order to get this feat free, you have to first have trade focus in the appropriate crafting type.
Engraving could be worked into Armorsmithing, Weaponsmithing, Lapidary, Leatherworking, Woodworking, and perhaps alchemy if the ability to craft one's own potion bottles it added. It can probably be used with other trades too, but those are just the ones that come to mind.
Or engraving could be added as a stand alone trade too.

What the difference between this and our current trademark feature?
Examples:
Normal: "a masterwork mithril towershield"
Gilain's TM: "a coin-branded mithril towershield"
---
Would be nice to be able to craft new potion bottles. Never really liked the limited selection open to the public that does not require X faith or Y organization to buy.

You only get one trademark though. engraving could open up customization of items a lot more. Just an idea though.

Technically, you can get as many trademarks as you want. You merely have to pay the glory cost for each one, after reaching the required skill level in the related trades. They are items you hold in your inventory, nothing set to your account or anything.

Engraving would make trademarks useless, wouldn't it?

To me a trademark has always been a status symbol, you have the very best of something, so automatically its worth more in resale and in practical use. I think if we had engraving the options should be generic and not unique.

Like the foaming mug for the battlehammer clan or elven designs or leaves or trees, generic stuff that adds to variety while not replacing trademarks. Also, doesn't trademark only work with Masterwork quality things?I've never seen a trademarked item in my possession yet, but I imagine that the long description mentions the trademark. That should be an easy way to distinguish them when in doubt.

Yes, trademarks only apply to masterwork quality items now. Basically, it replaces the masterwork in the title.
For example, using Gilain's TM... "a masterwork mithril towershield" would read as "a coin-branded mithril towershield"... and it still would list it as masterwork quality upon examining the item.
Edit: Old trademark items, stuff made before the new craft system, read as "mithril full plate armor marked with 'trademark'", something you may have seen around. These are not necessarily masterwork quality, since they were made before masterwork was developed... but GMs rarely trademark poor quality work.
