Please any thoughts would be great.

Hey there,
I work at a US Government location and they have most ports blocked, including 80 and 4000. Try opening a telnet client or modifying what clients you can use (I'm not sure if you can change the Java client) and test out port 23.

Oh wait - I think I misread your post.
Are you playing from basic training or at home?
Edit: Try this link, whether you're at home or work:
telnet://forgottenkingdoms.org:23
It should open up your native telnet client (command prompt for Windows machines). See if you can connect via that method.

If you're going into your Entry-Level School or MOS-producing school then you probably aren't using gov't system computers? Do you have trouble logging in from your barracks room or the MWR (Rec Center, whatever they call it there)? Those computers should have no filters.

Is this the same computer you used at home?
Sounds like a Java problem. If FANG fails to make a connection, it should come back with
Sorry, Could not connect to: forgottenkingdoms.org 80
Reason: java.net.SocketException: Software caused connection abort: connect
FANG has gotten a recent update, and needs the very latest version of Java. Try going to Control Panels : Java : Update : click the Update Now button. Then try FANG again.
Good luck!

I have updated my Java and still nothing, thenwhen I try to get zMUD nopthing shows up execpt a erroe page. Anything else could be the problem? Also, yes this is the SAME computer I used back home. I was in Ohio, but now I'm in Illinois, maybe that affected it somehow?

I don't get ANY error messages at all. The screen just stays blank the whole time. then after a while it will go offline.

Is this a JAVA error page? Or did you mean the blank screen?

That DOES sound like a blocked port. Try typing just this:
forgottenkingdoms.org
into the address bar of your web browser (what you are using right now) and tell us what you get.

Sounds like a blocked port to me as well. I get that at my work. So, I tethered my phone to my computer and use my phone's connection as my internet provider and have no restrictions.

I'm torn about if it's a blocked port:
If he can browse this website, he should be able to connect via port 80. When you connect to a website via an internet browser, you typically do this through port 80 (the HTTP port). The internet source cannot differentiate between browsing the web and connecting to MUD via port 80.
Also Lathander - he's effectively doing the same thing as you. He's using a mobile broadband card, i.e. he's connecting to the internet through his cell phone. Instead of using a phone tethered to his computer, he's got a device dedicated to it. That's the only real difference.
Tyhan, have you tried all the different ports? 26? 80? 4000? If it's a blocked port, you're still connecting to this website somehow and we need to figure out which port it is.

I don't know how to try the diffrent ports. Here on my phone card I can only get 80 it seems. Back home on my home iternet i got 4000, at the MWR I get 80 and it works but it works slowly. I don't know how this is going on with JUST my phone card.

As currently configured, I don't believe the new FANG allows for any port specification. It is locked on only one address, as best I can tell. Why 80 would be blocked is a mystery to me as well, but if you can try accessing the game port through your browser (my previous post), what you get might give us a clue.

Well, that alone would do it...FANG is working, but just sitting there waiting for the data to connect, which for some odd reason doesn't seem to be coming through.

If he can browse this website, he should be able to connect via port 80.
Just for informational purposes, using my work connection I can access the website but not the game.

Sure, but only organizational connections should have that filter. I used FANG from Iraq on recreational computers; the MWR (Morale, Welfare, and Recreation) or CZone (whatever brand name they attach to the pay-for-play computer lab on the base) should work fine.

The MWR web works just fine for the game and the site, but im trying to figure out why my PHONECARD web isn't letting me play it.

Maybe the phonecard company blocks port 80. You could always call them and ask?
