I tried to raise someone today, and had my ankh, my symbol, and my rubies that I normally use. I had no problem with it last week, but today I could not get it to work, twice.

You begin to chant.
Eyes ringed by stars on a moonstone pendant glows briefly.
A golden ankh glows briefly.
You lack the components for this spell.

You get a ruby from a sapphire spellpouch embroidered with diamond stars.
It is a small red gem cut by a master gemcutter!.
It is medium in size.

Are rubies no longer able to be used in raise dead? I had just gotten one from another PC since last week.

I'm not sure how or why it ever worked, but the coded component for raise dead is a shining pink gem. It may be that rubies used to be renamed/restrung versions of the pink gem, and now have their own vnum, but the ruby you describe above definitely has a distinct vnum and I would not expect it to work with raise dead.

Does anyone know anything more about this?
