Hello,
I've been experimenting with the blindness spell.
It is supposed to do the following:
1) Block your vision -- this works currently
2) Remove your dexterity bonus to AC:
--This doesn't work, either when i cast it on myself or another.
3) Get a -2 to your base AC.
--Also this doesn't work when I cast it on myself or another
4) Reduce movement by 1/2 --- not sure if this works
5) Get a -4 to most STR and DEX checks. -- not sure if this works
6) All opponents are concealed to you: meaning that there is a 50% chance of miss. They still have to roll a successful to hit roll even if they pass their 50% miss check.
-- see below
7) The effects are supposed to be permanent. -- Not so in FK, but probably shouldn't be anyway, too annoying to players in FK's environment.
**blind fighting feat allows the blinded person one re-roll against the 50% miss check if they missed it the first time.
--- #6 Is where I am seeing a big disconnect. I have tested this on mobs and on a PC. I should see a much greater miss chance from when they are not blind to when they are blind. After review the number of swings vs the number of misses for both a PC fighter (without blind-fight) and some mobs, like dummies, giants, orcs) I am not seeing any difference in the miss rates. I don't think this is working as it should.
I just re-tested before I submitted this post. I saw no change in the hit rate of myself when sparring another, I had 100% hit rate before and 100% hit rate after I was blinded.
Zorinar.

Re: blindess apparently not working correctly
Confirmed, bugged as #990.
Thanks for the detailed report!
Can't promise we'll change it, we may just change the helpfile, but we'll get it sorted. Blindness may be too powerful for its present spell level if these changes are all introduced.

Re: blindess apparently not working correctly
I would like to point out one addition thing to the spell. Although I can understand that the spell seems powerful, especially against fighters, but I want to note that the spell works against casters fully. Currently, we cannot target anything while blind, even AOE spells (at least the last time i checked it was such) and this completely neutralizes a wizard. At least fighters have a possible feat and saves ((its low level spell so low DC and its FORT save)they can use to reduce its effects. Basically, if blindness is not going to work as it should against melee classes, I would suggest also reducing its effect on casters classes to balance it out. Otherwise, we only have a disparity.

Re: blindess apparently not working correctly
Though they will not be reflected in SCORE, you should find blindness has a substantial impact on melee combat. Thanks for reporting this!
Re: blindess apparently not working correctly
As someone playing a melee char atm, who has done fighting without the feat while blinded, there is a significant difference.
On that note, I dont know if that feat is working properly. I haven't tested it on anyone that does have it.
