Tell error after pre-lvl 10 death

Hi, Briek told me that this was a bug when I mentioned it to him, and suggested that I post it here.

Yesterday my level 8 character died for the first time, and was dumped back into the temple in Waterdeep naked. I found that while I could use 'otell' I could not use 'tell', and received the 'Your voice doesn't carry that far without shouting or magic' error (or something similar, I've forgotten the exact wording). I assume that this is because the amulet of communication remains with the corpse, but as I said, Briek said that this was a bug and asked that I report it, so that's what I'm doing. It does seem like not being able to 'tell' really restricts the ability of a new (dead) PC to contact others ICly to help with corpse-recovery, so hopefully this is something that is unintentional and can be fixed. I'm actually surprised that OTELL works, and that would be a positive improvement from the previous scenario in which you needed the amulet for both IC and OOC tells. ICly, though, it doesn't make sense for you to be able to TELL without an amulet. I don't believe this is a bug, but if anyone knows otherwise, please speak up!

(I understand it would be convenient to be able to TELL in this situation, but ICly telepathy isn't something most PCs innately possess.)

I thought he was getting that echo while in the Realms of the Dead, but soon found out he
was below level 10 and thus...not dead.

Ah, sorry. I must have misunderstood the question at the time. Telepathy would not be very IC, no.

Nothing to apologize for! (I just wanted to explain the rationale for calling this "not a bug"!)

Thanks for reporting it, much better reporting a non-bug than not reporting one! :D
