Game of Thrones

Post by Mask » Wed Jun 29, 2011 8:09 pm

I was expecting to hate the TV version of the book so was amazed when I really enjoyed almost every minute of it! Looking forward to book 5 in a couple of weeks :D.

(Mrs Mask didn't appreciate being told the history and future of every character as and when they appeared on screen though - often together with an estimate as to how many episodes until we saw them die)...

The books are great, but you have to have a strong stomach for a dose of realism (I guess that's the best way to put it); they do not have fairy-tale endings.

I look forward to getting the show on DVD. I heard good things about it.

The TV version is brilliant. I was surprised at how true they kept to the books even down to a lot of the dialogue being word for word.

Season two started here a short bit ago but it seems the Missus has cancelled HBO, and thus the only channel I have to watch it. Game of Thrones is LITERALLY the only reason we got cable. Anyway, just thought I'd ask anyone who's watching the second season:
Is it being delivered with the same calibre of awesome? No spoilers! Just recommendations as to whether I should hunt down a means of watching it before DVD release. :)

It's as good as the first series so far. I've noticed that there has been a little bit of skipping certain parts in order to speed the story along, but the section I did notice it with isn't a crucial one so I wasn't too upset about it. It seems to be keeping really true to the book again for the most part which is a lot of why I like it so much.

This show is incredible. Between this and Spartacus, I'm happily paying off my premium cable channels.

Its a little more tightly-wound than the books, the flow is better though I don't care for some of the name changes, that's just the fear of alienating their audience. It used to be that television shows respected our intelligence.

Great! I'll see if any of my friends have been recording it so I can actually watch it from the beginning and not get further behind. Thanks guys!

Picked up the first book on Thursday and I've got 200 pages to go. After I'm done with the first book, I'm going to watch the first season on DVD.

I have to say, I am enjoying it quite well.

Someone got me to read them by comparing Gwain to a character, I then watched the television series. I like it much better than the Wheel of Time because it keeps a clear and concise narrative and is rich in descriptions of everything from food to architecture and period dress or weaponry. Its an agony waiting for the next book, but hopefully The American football season will end soon!

Really? I always thought the First Law trilogy a better fit for Gwain. Unrepentant LN.

The book was amazing, and the series is rather good as well. I've even gotten my husband watching it. Almost done with season one.

Based on this thread, I just started reading the books. I'm about half way through the first book. It's excellent! Thanks for the recommendation. I haven't seen the series.
