I think I just took a free caravan ride from Waterdeep to Silkhole. I bought the token from the token seller, walked to the east to the proper caravan, and just walked right on up and roamed about the caravan until Silkhole.
I still have the token upon exiting the caravan.
Anyone else experienced this?

Likely as not, you turned in a token previously without boarding a wagon. There is no expiration on that bit; it only clears if you mount a wagon.
