There are a couple of things that in my view rather limit the usefulness of scrolls as it stands.

Syntax for using a scroll is

recite <target>.

Firstly you can not specify any parameters for the spell or spells on the scroll, which makes certain spells like energy immunity, dragon skin and a lot of others pretty useless. What i would like is a syntax more like.

recite <target(may be self)> <parameters> where the parameters get passed through to all the spells invoked from the scroll.

Secondly there is an oddity with area effect spells on scrolls, the <target> you have to specify on recitiation is the only thing affected by the spells, even if when normally cast they would blow up an entire room.

Just my observations after starting to use scrolls for the first time.

Firstly big thankyou to Marty for the code fix. :)

Secondly a minor bug neither of my wizards has the read magic spell in there spell list.

Duranamir now with added scroll power !

Sorry, going to take this one bit at a time. First, we have to cook up a helpfile for Read Magic!

Ok, done. But I'd like to flesh it out more. If anyone can give me a better idea of what the spell does, that'd be a help. Anything besides identify scrolls, and is that flawless?

As for your casters without the spell, Duranamir: Do they have the other cantrips (level 0 spells)? Does the spell not show up in your list, or does it show up but as unknown?

Anyone else have a caster missing the new "read magic" spell from their spell list?

Read magic has been added to wizard and cleric spell lists since Duranamir's original post, so it just needs the helpfile.

Ok, thanks for the update, Lirith!

Expanded the helpfile a bit based on some testing, and added reference to it to the scrolls helpfile.

Putting this one to bed!
