rescue and mounts

During a combat it's very easy to accidentally rescue your enemy. If you do so your mount leaves your group. I'm unsure about the ramifications of quitting the game while your mount is not in your group, during this time you're unable to "order" your mount to accept an group invitation. I am currently staying up as late as I can "ask" again for IMM assistance.
I suggest common mounts, who are not currently in a group, able to be easily ordered to accept a group invitation.

I fixed this specific issue and dragged the thread over to suggestions. Should we look at how this works in combat? Is there a reason to be able to rescue your enemy?

Yielding could be a form of rescue, meaning you stop the fight and 'rescue your enemy' Its only useful for spars and pkill though.

Would configuration surrender or some form of it be needed? Like if you refused to except yields?

You can always use the surrender command; the config setting means that you automatically surrender to mobiles coded as guards. But let's stay on topic here. Should you be able to rescue an opponent during combat? i.e. type rescue griffon while you are killing a griffon

The best I could do would be to suggest that we modify the code so that even if we attack our pets they don't get dismissed. They would be ours until we abandoned or killed them.
As for rescuing enemies, I'd suggest a command like stun or bash, where to rescue our enemies we knock them unconscious. The enemy itself is is hostile, if we attempt to rescue them it should only succeed if we knock them out. That would be for ic reasons.
Sorry, I forgot about the surrender command.

If you are in a group and your party member has accidentally attacked a vital mob, would rescuing that mob save them? If so then yes, I see a purpose to it.

I can envision other situations, but they seem far-fetched:
1) Nature-lover wants to save the wolf that joins in when some goblins attack
2) You are facing a party of PCs and one of them has turned against you but you think you can redeem them
3) Your group leader initiates a fight you adamantly refuse to join their side on
But on balance I think rescue should be limited to at least non-enemies, viz., those you are not in combat with, if not restricted to just your party members.

The only time I've needed to rescue an enemy was during a spar. A mob wondered in and attacked the person I was sparring against, so I rescued him so he didn't get insta-gibbed.
