Signature Weapon

I was looking through some homebrew feats and I found this:

Code: Select all

Signature Weapon (General)
Your skill with a particular weapon is legendary.
Prerequisite: Weapon Focus, Improved Critical.
Benefit: When you choose this feat, choose a weapon for which you have the weapon focus feat. This weapon is now your Signature Weapon. You receive a +1 to all attack and damage rolls while using this weapon. Weapon Specialisation supersedes this feat. The attack bonus stacks with Weapon Focus.
Special: Unlike other weapon-oriented feats, you may only choose this feat once.
As it is I am not sure of it's usefulness in this form, however I do like the idea of binding a weapon to you. As you master a certain weapon, as you take the appropriate focus and specialization feats, you gain some sort of bond and bonus to this weapon you've carried so long and know so well? Either taking a feat where you gain a bonus for using a specific weapon item, ie your signature weapon rather than just a bonus on type. Some games also feature a 'binding' of items, where they are more beneficial, but only you can use the item and it can never be sold thereafter. Is this interesting enough to warrant a permutation of it, or should it be left for RP or application?

I think an idea like this has some serious potential.

As I mentioned in my previous thread, I feel that fighters need some love in this game - just something to make them more unique and fun.

However, instead of just being a straight up feat for the idea you mentioned, I feel it might be more intriguing if it was added to the game in some sort of quest form. I'm kind of expanding on your idea, but hear me out:

This would be sort of like The Legend of Zelda: you can choose the red armor (more damage) or the blue armor (more defense), but not have both. My idea would follow a similar model, but modified to fit the context of FK. There are three paths a fighter can follow: weapon bond (like the feat you mentioned), armor bond (some bonus to defense), or team bond (some sort of utility/aura/extra skill to be determined). You can only choose one path and once you do, you cannot change it.

I think this could add some fun flair to the fighter class.
