I've found very recently that if you are in complete darkness and initiate a backstab in combat, you may do more than one during the combat. The help file mentions backstab as a combat initiation, so I wanted to report this as a possible issue, especially when combined with darkvision.

If anything, I think it's the helpfile that would need an update. I also do 'sneak attacks' when I gouge someone, or if they're stunned (IE color spray), which is as per SRD (don't have dex bonus)

a goblin soldier has a few small cuts.
You score a critical hit!
A goblin soldier makes a strange sound as you land a sneak attack with a dark metal katana!
A goblin soldier's heart is torn from his chest.
A goblin soldier is DEAD!


Pretty sure sneak attacks are meant to happen aside from just combat initiation.

I don't know the current state of the sneak attack vs. backstab/circle debate, but that works as intended by DND standards. Any time you'd get the drop on your enemy, you get a sneak attack--them not being able to see you is one of these situations.

Thanks for the report, and the additional comments! I agree that the helpfile needs a tweak, and I've done my best to provide it, though I'm no expert on roguery. If what I've added doesn't sound right, please let me know!
