Mind Shielding

I'd like to see Mind Shielding apply to mobiles as well. At present it shields your alignment from PCs but goods and evils are still kept from certain areas because it seems mobiles aren't programmed to recognize or care about the affect. The best example I can give would be Silverymoon keeping a player out for being evil, when this affect should rightly be able to hide that. If the Hammerlord, the Grand Master of Tyrran Knights, can't see past it, why can the guards on guard duty at Eagle's Rest? And why can the guards of Silverymoon see past it? It strikes me as something that would bring an affect to a little more realism simply because it would fail you entirely at the gate when someone says, "Nope, you're evil buddy." in front of the player who's been rocking detect evil the entire time.
as always, tl;dr
Mind Shielding moot against mobiles at present. Possible fix for this?

Eagle's Rest and places like that, I'd agree. Silverymoon is different though, as it's not the guards that keep out evils, it's the powerful wards over the entire city. I don't think it'd be fooled by a mere ring...but maybe I'm overestimating the power of the wards, I don't know.

I fully agree. It's been awhile and I forgot much of what I once knew of Silverymoon's fluff(time to refresh) but I remember references to a ward around the city. Such a magic would likely be ancient and easily able to overrule the ring, but that's something of symantics. Silverymoon aside, I think we are agreed that such a ring should apply against mobile's as well.

I do remember their being a post about evils just not being allowed into the city any more, as there were ways for them to get in. But due to abuse it was removed.

You'd definitely have to rp as a neutral at least, because some of those guards are going to be determining undesirables based on actions, i.e. sense motive, rather than a spell. And openly wearing the symbol of an evil deity or organization, or just being reknowned as an undesirable, would have to factor in as well. So on second thought, while this would be a great addition, I believe it might open the door for a lot of abuse. There would need to be a way to prevent that.

I have to disagree with your choice of terms. It wouldn't open up possibilities for abuse so much as possibilities for RP. If you're a Whipmistress of Loviatar with nothing but darkness in your heart and this ring, you're not going to slip on the ring and expect to waltz on through. You're going to cover your red leathers in a big robe and walk through like any other traveller or caravan person. I see people around quite frequently who wear masks or plain-clothes to fit in more and while I agree, you shouldn't walk into a place like Eagle's Rest or Lathander's Temple wearing the uniform of a Knight of Zhentil Keep... it would be rather hard to code a wall to prevent that. I think that's something we can have faith in people to use their heads and roleplay for.
My only idea to code such a thing is for those guards to recognize Worn (Symbol) items and decline access to set deity symbols. This would take a deal of effort though.

No, it's pretty easy. I just changed The Citadel at Eagle Peak to follow similar protocols to the outpost at Battlerise (
i.e. turn away goblin-kin, orcs, and monsters), but with a few unique tweaks on account of its status as not only a part of Cormyr's western line of fortifications, but the home to a temple of Torm the True.
Changes should be live on the game port tomorrow morning.

Thank you for looking into these! I'm excited to see the results! Would it be practical for me to make, on an ongoing basis, a list of places that mind shield might be able to help someone into?

You are free to make recommendations, but do not expect that degree of celerity in response. I have been thinking about updating parts of that area (my first area, fumbled to completion) for a while.

Very well. I'll begin a list for recommendation.
Thanks for the speedy response!
