Halfelves and languages

Perhaps once again as the previous post I made about mobs rearming, this is petty as well, but I believe that halfelves should either automatically get both elven and common, or be able to choose between them at the least. Halfelves may be treated as outsiders, but more commonly are still atleast raised in elven villages at first. As in my bio for one of my characters, she had an elven father and a halfelven mother. She was raised in the elven village though which means she should have known elven. Maybe not all halfelves were raised around elves, but some of them were, and I just think we should be able to either know both or be able to choose.

This will be a feature for future half-elves. You may apply for an update to your existing character(s).

Do you mean as in halfelves will know both or that they can choose?

New half-elves will know both (but they also now cost 50 kismet).

I can accept that. The application has been sent in.

The kismet cost has more to do with the proliferation of half-elves relative to humans than anything else. For example, at the time of this post, there are 6 half-elves in the game (that's more than one fourth of the total population and three times the next most populous race playing).

Just a quick question on languages--in the case of max tongues learnable--do base languages count towards that? If we app for the language, will -it- count towards max? I don't know how this works. e_e

Currently, yes, your starting languages count towards your max learnable. As to the other, I can only speculate.

Yes and no. If you had a maximum of three languages and you knew two, then yes, gaining another language would prevent you from gaining any others in the future. If you had three and you were given another, then you could have four. The maximum only prevents you from training another one, it does not prevent you from having another assigned.
The staff would have to discuss those situations on a case by case basis though; hence the request that you apply.

Okay. The official policy is this:
Half-elven PCs who predate the assignment of two languages (Common and Elven) at character creation may apply for this benefit. The price is 50 kismet points. In order to receive proficiency in Elven you must either have a remaining language slot available or, if you have no available slots, you must only know common. The two cases look something like this:
I have an intelligence of 10 and I can only learn one language. I know only common.
I have an intelligence of 18 and can learn 12 languages; I know eleven languages and I have one slot available.
Please post questions here.
