A muddy moat

The ground here is a very thick layer of mud, and it is very hard to
move around unless you are flying. Here and there, some bones of various
sizes can be seen, stuck in the mud. The animals seem to avoid the muddy
moat, as if there was most to it than meets the eye.

The last phrase should probably be, "...moat, as if there was MORE to it than meets the eye."

Yes, it should be "moat, as if there were more to it than meets the eye". Where is that?
