Gondar Smoke Bomb

I am honestly not sure if this is a bug or not, as I have never seen these work. But I would imagine for something that cost as much as they do, they should actually do something?

Code: Select all

You hold a smoke bomb in your left hand.

You throw the bomb on the ground and it explodes.
That is pretty much it. Even with another none grouped PC in the room, this has no affect what so ever. The name suggest that it should produce a cloud of smoke, perhaps blinding the victim for a few rounds?

As I said, I am not sure if this is a bug, or if this should be under suggestions. But I figured this was the best place to start.
Thanks!

I believe it's an RP tool for thieves. I was under the impression that it was so that you can use the "hide" skill while there's people gathered in the room. So as opposed to,
"Pakur suddenly disappears, with no explanation he's just suddenly gone cuz he'z so gewd at hiding!"

it's more like..

" Pakur quickly grabs a smoke bomb from his super cool belt of awesome gadgets and hefts it into the crowd! "

Algon: Where hast that roguish gnave gone!?

Someone sneaks east.

Someone successfully evades capture.

Someone is totally awesome cuz they used a smoke bomb + hide instead of just.. disappearing cuz he's sewper awesome!

I saw it work once for a fighter, but that was a very long time ago, its possible it was turned into an rp item or the code associated with it is very old.

Yes, I interpreted it as an RP tool, as well. However, some people don't like to give others the chance to RP before attacking. It would be neat if it was coded to break combat and hide the user, though.

These bombs -do- function as they're intended to.

I disagree Althasizor, but I do not believe that the way they are designed makes much sense anyway. Right now they are supposed to cast 'faerie fog' and that seems contrary to the idea of obscuring smoke. I could do this with them: maybe they make a cloud that billows up and gradually decreases your chances of seeing anything in the room? Obscuring smoke has no friends though (especially when they pay hundreds of dollars for silly tactical gear for use in paintball) and it would potentially hinder everyone in the room.

What about something similar to the gnome gold dust code? Temporary, very short-acting blindness and it dissipates after a few seconds. I definitely agree that faerie fog is the opposite of what it should be doing, that makes no sense.

Well, it does make a certain degree of sense. Fairie fog outlines invisible targets. Thinner smoke, like in the video that Harry showed, would do the same. Though I agree that overall, blinding everyone in the room makes sense (and would also effectively cancel out any advantage from invisibility, after all).

I definitely think how it works now is awkward to say the least, but it does also seem intentional. A change to make it harder to see in the room would make much more sense!

I think making it do gold dust would be a great alternative to the current version

Okay. One of the two smoke bombs available (the one that did faerie fire) now is very similar to the gold dust; the other remains more like a dramatic prop.
