Some hands and aid and spells weirdness

Post by Trillarel » Fri Sep 21, 2012 8:34 am

I always thought the echo 'You do not have enough free hands to cast that' should appear only when having lost a limb. However, I found out recently that one gets the echo also when the arms are mangled or critically injured.

Also, when typing aid self, I constantly get 'Viconia doesn't need your help'.
Curiously, aid self works at the time cast cure self does not.

If you have ever seen a mangled hand...I think this echo seems to be a good fit for what that could look like. Imagine having your hand/arm hit with a mace repeatedly...

Aid only works if the character or mob is bleeding freely. It is not used for any type of healing. So I am not sure that either of these are bugs. Now when you say "cast cure self" does not work, are you using this actual syntax as the input?

Yes, exactly this syntax. The weirdness is that if we allow aid with mangled hands, spell casting should be allowed too. Else aid should throw the same echo as casting spells.

XXX is bleeding heavily.
XXX is extremely injured.
His head is badly bruised.
His left arm is mangled.
His chest is badly bruised.
His right arm is mangled.
His abdomen is badly bruised.
He is bleeding freely.

Aid:
You have no arms to do that with.

c 'cure light'
You do not have enough free hands to cast that.
No bug here.

Well, I didn't get 'You have no arms to do that with.', I got 'Viconia doesn't need your help' with mangled arm.

help aid wrote:This skill allows you to bring a stunned person back into consciousness. It
also stops bleeding.
That's because aid does not help mangled limbs; it only revives a PC or stops bleeding.

I get that. But in the above situation, I should have gotten 'You have no arms to do that with.', seeing as my arm was mangled.

I don't agree, but now we're getting into a matter of opinion. Things like this are better in the Game Suggestions forum.

The code most likely checks to see if you are bleeding first before it checks to see if you have arms that can do the command. That seems like the correct order of things to me.

Right - Why would it tell you that you have no arms to do it with, rather than tell you that you do not even need to?

Then you might think you're bleeding and be trying to find a way to fix that when you are in fact, not bleeding.
