Fighting mobs in other rooms: Arterial strike

Posted: Tue Sep 11, 2012 6:21 pm

The issue seems to happen to every mob that gets critically hit while 'arterial strike' feat is enable in combatmode. I was in Daggerford trying to find a skill trainer, and a couple of the guards spotted my character. So I kept fleeing and eventually made it out of Daggerford. However, when combat was initiated with a couple of them, apparently I got a few critical hits in on a couple of mobs and caused bleeding damage. I tried quitting and logging back in, however the messages persisted until the mobs bled out and died.

Long arm of the Law

I was doing some slightly underhanded deeds today in Highcastle and was caught by the guards. Now I was able to run away and hide, but here is the strange thing. Several minutes later...far away from high castle I start getting some strange echos.

Code: Select all

Arabel
N-Moonsea Ride E-The East Way S-Calantar's Way W-The High Road
NE-The Helmlands NW-The Helmlands SE-Plains SW-King's Forest
The road is clear of grass and heavily rutted from the passage of many
wagons bearing their heavy loads. There are several potholes that you
must take care to avoid tripping in.
The sky is cloudless and warm and a warm southerly breeze blows.
A stone waymarker sits here beside the road. (perfect)

Your pierce deeply cuts a guard of Highcastle's body.
Your pierce deeply cuts a knight's body.
Your pierce penetrates a citizen of Highcastle's body.
Your pierce deeply cuts a gatekeeper's body.
Your pierce shallowly penetrates a citizen of Highcastle Creek's body.
I am even able to sleep and do anything normally, its just this echos every couple of minutes.

Code: Select all

You sit and relax.
You close your eyes and drift into slumber.
You wake and climb quickly to your feet.
Your pierce cuts a guard of Highcastle's body.
Your pierce deeply cuts a knight's body.
Your pierce penetrates a citizen of Highcastle's body.
Your pierce deeply cuts a gatekeeper's body.
Your pierce deeply cuts a citizen of Highcastle Creek's body.
I even tried to quit out for a few moments and it appeared the moment I logged back in.

Do you have arterial strike?
You have caused him to bleed i think.

Correct me if i am wrong??

The bleeding is definitely the cause of the echo, but the problem is more that I am still getting this echo from Hichcastle when I am standing in Westgate.

Harry

I have had the same happen to a character of mine.
It has happened since I have had arterial strike....It seems to continue to attack the Mob if you leave the room via fleeing. Instead of the Mob just bleeding out it seems to continue to attack once per round and you continue to see the echo. I have had this happen twice to me, both after fleeing from combat.

Thanks. I tried to replicate this on the test port and was unsuccessful. We need to get a log of exactly how it happens in order to show this to Mask.

Out of interest what did you try to fight when you tested this?

I cant speak for Algon but the two times its happened to me was with a Lamia and a certain NPC in Selgaunt to do with a pirate quest.....Both who were too tough for me to fight really. I have tried testing it on safer opponents and am unable to replicate it. I wonder if it needs testing on tougher opponents? Obviously I am a little more cautious about doing this.....

I tried it with the Highcastle guards; I attacked for a while (in combatmode+ arterial) and then fled.

The mob chased you out of its area? Perhaps it's related to that one mob flag (nowander, or something?).

No. The problem is that the PC continued to see messages stating that he was attacking the mob while the mob was not present because (hypothesis follows) the mob continued to bleed as a result of a feat.

Yes, of course. I am saying that the ones that did not continue to show the message - they were nowander mobs, right? I was just asking if it might have something to do with that. Just trying to find a connection.

Sorry! The holidays and all had me pretty tied up the last few days. I will see if I can replicate this situation again. Basically what is happening is when I was hidden and trying to steal, and failed, after the MOB initiated a fight, I would flee and then a few moments later I would see an echo that I hit so and so. And yes, it was checked and each of these MOBs were bleeding at the time, once they were aided, the echos stopped. I will try to replicate this issue again.

I can confirm that the none of the mobs left their area and were still bleeding/giving echoes at the time. The nowander flag isn't relevant in this case.

That is an interesting hypothesis: the NOWANDER and STAY_AREA act flags could have some bearing here in the sense that the mobiles involved could be sending phantom echoes because of some weird interaction of the parameters of those flags with the effects of rogue attacks. I'm not sure though; I am not a hard code guy and this one is up for more testing from the Code Council (or any other player willing to produce a detailed report) before we give it to Mask.

Before the recent changes to combat, when you could fly into a room and had a few seconds to leave, I used to see it with bandits, mostly them trying to hit me after I left. That issue is gone now though.

I was just playing with this on the testport. I could replicate it on a bear(m100) who has a NOWANDER flag, but more interesting with a bandit(m110000) who hasn't a NOWANDER or STAY_AREA flag. I attacked him out in the plains near the friendly arms inn with combatmode arterial strike on, made him bleed as a result of the feat and fled fairly far east into another area. He still followed the entire way and did end up catching and attacking me, but I received a message that I'd hit him every time the message "A bandit is bleeding heavily.".

A bandit walks in from the south.
A curvy, heavychested male human walks in from the south.
A bandit lunges at you from out of nowhere!

It doesn't look like either ACT flag has any bearing on this. More to follow.
