Flame Blade
===========
Evocation [Fire]
Range: Personal
Target: Inventory
Syntax: cast 'flame blade'

A 3-foot-long, blazing beam of red-hot fire springs forth from your hand.
You wield this bladelike beam as if it were a scimitar.
It is a cutlass in the single-edged blades category of weapons.
It can be picked up, held, held in both hands.
It cannot be worn with any other armour.
It is medium in size and would fit any body type.
It seems to come up as a Cutlass instead of a Scimiatar

Is there a difference?

Yes, a cutlass is 1d8 with 19-20/2x critical for medium characters. A scimitar is 1d6 with a 18-20/2x. Scimitars are also martial weapons while cutlass are not.

No.
You wield a steel cutlass in your right hand.
A steel cutlass feels like a part of you.
Primary Weapon: 1d6+4 Hit Bonus: +4 Critical: 18-20/x2
You stop using a steel cutlass.
You wield a scimitar in your right hand.
A scimitar feels like a part of you.
Primary Weapon: 1d6+4 Hit Bonus: +4 Critical: 18-20/x2
You stop using a scimitar.

In game, they're different then, but that's the rulebook I mentioned above.

The spell should actually do fire damage
The blade deals 1d8 points of fire damage +1 point per two caster levels

We need area code help on this one. Need to change
(253) a flame blade
from type 12 (cutlass) to type 44 (scimitar) and change the damage to 1d8+L/5

Changing the damage type to fire...that may have to wait, most weapon flags are currently disabled, in my experience, but that's not really what's needed here anyway, I think that adds damage on top of the base physical damage, and here we want all the damage to be fire (such that you do nothing but become BBQ if you charge a fire elemental with it.)

But in the weapons table scimitar and cutlass are identical as best I can tell: I think I concur with Althasizor that this comes down to semantics. The damage the current flame blade would do would actually be too high, not too low, if weapon flags were working.
