Gruumsh Temple Orc Camp

Hey there,

I was just wondering if we could have the flag on the temple be changed from orc only to gruumsh only. I've currently got a bugbear that is in Gruumsh faith that has no access to the temple. It was suggested that I post this there and see what may come of it!

Cheers!

If you need any help let me know

The builder can address how he wants this changed, but I am not sure that it is inherently a bug because of the orc's disdain for other races.

I had a chance to speak with the builder. It was intentional. While members of other races may choose to follow Gruumsh, to him they are just fodder. Orcs are the master race and his sacred temples are gathering places for his children only.

That seems unnecessary. Canon-wise, it might make sense, but the monstrous races have been barely struggling by for years. If they can follow the orc god, I'm not sure I understand why they wouldn't be allowed in. Treated as equals? Definitely not. But to gain admittance to, as far as I know, his only temple in the game... that doesn't seem like a hinderance that adds anything to the game.

Monstrous races don't even exist anymore as a character creation option. I don't understand why a bugbear would follow Gruumsh in the first place, (but that aside) I don't think orcs would allow a subordinate race wear their patron's emblazzoned gear, weapons, etc, just because it worships Gruumsh. There are a ton of temples with poor area support out there - I doubt the time and energy spent "fixing" something like this so that 1, maybe 2 characters in game can benefit it, would be worth the effort.

When in doubt, build something. If there's poor support for your extremely rare race that doesn't even exist anymore as a playable race, build something that supports monstrous races as a whole (or bestial races as a whole).

Cheers.

Easy easy, I dont know where there is so much hostility being felt here. I wasn't trying to start a fight. Threads clear, it was merely a suggestion, and based on builders choice, and a canon solid one at that, its no big deal! Thanks for all the input though! As to why, perhaps error in youth, lack of knowledge at the time, or maybe there was a big orc kick and he fell in through combat, I can't recall.

Anyway,

Cheerio! Thanks for asking about that Lath!

First, the time and effort required is exceptionally minimal for any builder who actually knows how to do progs.

Second, (and I don't mean to be offensive towards you, but) I have a feeling you might feel different if your Bugbear was still in existence.

As someone who has two characters of races no longer allowed on creation, I have found the lack of support extremely annoying; especially considering how simple it is to alleviate the issue. No possible foot armor for Wemic? How hard is that? No heavy leg armor for Centaur or Wemic? Come on.

We play on a MUD where the Gods you can follow with coded support are extremely limited (considering how many Gods there really are). Personally I'd rather see none of the Gods get coded support and no PC faith hierarchy, but my views are probably rather extreme on that subject.

Just because something is not a creation option anymore does not mean the MUD never supported them or that we did not invest our time into the fleshing out of these characters.

TL;DR:

Work is minimal. Benefit is visible and there are players who would appreciate it.

I have gotten a lot of interest in updating the orc areas over the last year, but very little action upon that interest. I don't have any interest in sacrificing my time from other projects (active role-play events, staff functions, fixing bugs, or building new areas) to get involved in this.

I will just say that I welcome applications to revitalize the orc camp (or maybe even make a goblin camp).

FK is sorely lacking in orc support, ESPECIALLY in the northern regions. Mountain orcs are all over the place in northern Faerun (Spine of the World and Northern Reaches) and I can't seem to think of any settlements/camps in-game in the region. A prime example is Many-Arrows, a civilized orc city that gained power right before the resurrection of Bane - which is approximately where FK is at right now.

I think instead of thoroughly revamping the Orc Camp, it would be far more useful to add new Orc establishments near the Spine of the World. This could lead to some excellent dwarf vs. orc RP (which is sorely lacking), especially if Citadel Felbar or Citadel Adbar are added to FK.

This would make an excellent opportunity for a player to contribute to FK.

There are a number of dwarven holds that have been over-run by orcs, too, right? Could make for an interesting quest area--something along the lines of the Eleven Tombs but dwarf-ish in nature and instead of undead you get orcs; bonus points for an orc side.

Yes, that too would be a fine project. If you'd like to get started on it I'm sure there's plenty of people around (myself included) who would be more than happy to make ourselves available to answer any questions you might have regarding area code or scripts.

I'll throw my support behind it, as well. If any room/mob/item descriptions or the fleshing out of characters is needed, feel free to count me in.

It would also be a good opportunity to bring in a lot of the feats that are still missing from the game, but that'd be up to whoever is the lead on the project.
