Resizing for the little people

I was thinking on this and I'm not really a fan of small sized races with the exception of the short tiny versions of genasi in the general plane touched books. Why not put in a vendor that is restricted to all size small races. With coding to keep anyone else otu that can resize for a small fee? At the moment it takes glory which is a bit unfair to them and the rmi doesn't distinguish size and reward accordingly, and if the item comes out magic and medium then they get shafted. Anyway digressing again. It could be made to resize down to small only. Not being able to go above small or below it.

I have not tried in a very long time, but do smith NPCs no long resize weapons and armor?

One cannot resize magical objects via an NPC now.

I suspect he means magical items. Presently it costs 20 glory per item to resize a magical item and that makes life difficult for halflings.

But big people also receive small items. I've received both armours and weapons that have been too small to wield and paid glory to get them re-sized. The only solution I can see would be to increase the chance of halflings receiving smaller items like a reverse ratio to larger racers receiving smaller, so in all likelihood they usually get tiny things with an exception or two.

That would work just as well! It just seems a bit unfair to the little people. I have gotten maybe one small sized item from rmi and have seen halflings and gnomes wearing stuff that is to big because they don't really have a choice int he matter.

I think lowering the cost to resize for small folks down to 5 instead of 20 might be another possible solution...

Or turn to auto-sizing items. It would save the cost of glory, work out for everyone in general, and be less applications. Everyone wins!
*edited to add something from SRD about magic items and sizes:
Size And Magic Items
When an article of magic clothing or jewelry is discovered, most of the time size shouldn’t be an issue. Many magic garments are made to be easily adjustable, or they adjust themselves magically to the wearer. Size should not keep characters of various kinds from using magic items.
There may be rare exceptions, especially with racial specific items.
Armor and Weapon Sizes
Armor and weapons that are found at random have a 30% chance of being Small (01-30), a 60% chance of being Medium (31-90), and a 10% chance of being any other size (91-100).

My personal opinion is that this option is unfair to medium and large sized folks.

I've only needed to resize two items I believe, for medium characters. For a small character almost all items would need to be resized. I'm sure there are better ways to resolve this however.

The auto resizing would be fair to all and fit according to what tyeslan posted.

Why should resizing cost glory? And secondly, why should it cost 20 glory? Glory is already difficult to accumulate and it is a FINITE resource. There are six locations where you can wear magical armour (120 glory) and at least one weapon slot for a total of 140 glory just to resize an entire suit to fit a small/large character. That's more glory than most characters get in their lifetime. And what if you want something else?
I think both an auto-size feature upon receiving the reward and a resizing mechanic that only costs coins is the way to go.

Shameless plug to reinstate the tailor commands for people working with armoursmithing, weaponsmithing, leatherworking, etc. I miss the days of being able to resize magical items so long as I was a master/grandmaster in that respective trade. This would also boost the need to have good-quality smiths in the fold, and give some further purpose to the already-tedious-and-underpaying job of all trades.

If I'm not mistaken, RMIs function off a series of base items, which are then renamed as they're given out. Perhaps the simplest method would be giving all the magical base items FLAG_RESIZE? This wouldn't do anything for the items already ingame, but it would take care of anything in the future.

Create a config option +size and -size, that way they can choose to receive random big things just in case they want to resell or trade them.

What Tye said (and thanks for the SRD quote!). It's been brought up before and I really do feel that now is a good time to have magical items to automatically resize themselves to the size of the person attempting to wear them.

I would say only on quest completion. Items bought or traded for should permanently retain the size that they were given when won by that adventurer.

I disagree. It's referenced in many many books and it's an official source material that magical items generally resize to the user. This change would only benefit the players and wouldn't harm anything. Why should we make it inconvenient for players?

Mainly because several players have paid huge amounts of glory for resizing already and should not suddenly have the option to resize with a tailor. I'm all for smallfolk having the option to get properly sized equipment for themselves as quest rewards, but if they buy it second hand, they should have to pay glory like everyone else has in the past. Unless of course the imms want to change the tailors and pay back glory to everyone that had to pay for magic item resizing.

At some point, you have to break from the past and do what's right for the game going forward. For example, fighters in the past were able to exchange glory for stats but do not receive bonus feats. The bonus feats >>>>>> the extra stats, but that hasn't changed things for past characters. An appeal to tradition is a poor reason to keep a mechanic in game.
