I was just fighting some of these today, Malagan's tower, and it looks like these are for some reason not getting darkvision. It's night, the room is dark - when I enter, they don't aggro. When I attack them, I get "You surprise a kobold royal guard and prepare to engage him in combat!". The same mob will aggro fine when the room is lit.

Kobold royal guard's race is human, that's the problem.

Presumably kobolds were too weak, might want to switch this to a unique mob to make them tougher/stronger. m17307 in malagan.are
