Goblin height/weight

After reviewing the help files for Goblins, it seems the average height is about four feet, with a weight of fifty to sixty pounds. In character creation, I made a large goblin with normal weight. I came out to be 5'11" and 149 lbs on the score sheet.

Well, the helpfile seems consistent with the SRD/D20 rules, but the race file lists goblins as size medium. Anyone know if the discrepancy is intentional?

I assume this would have to be a concerted change, because there are a LOT of goblins in the game and doing this off the cuff would leave a ton of them with incorrectly sized equipment, I think.

Thanks for the report - issue is confirmed but I'm not sure what the fix should be yet.

I rolled up several characters of the various short races, the heights for all of them are way off and other than dwarves the weights are also way off. It applies to both male and female dwarves, gnomes, halflings of all subraces. It also was giving default adjectives of things like "a small tall male halfling" but it definately seems to be a bug to me. Though correllation to goblin size being medium or small specifically is not something I could speak to.

I'm not 100% sure it would change any equipment. My score sheet just reflects me as a small sized character, just the displayed height/weight has me at a near six foot tall 'shortie'. So the bug does not affect me code wise, I still have to size all my armor as small in order for it to fit proper, but I'm not sure about the NPC's.

Ah, then perhaps this is one for the area gurus. I think this is set in the Chargen area, which recently got a makeover. But I just tried reproducing this myself on the testport, and I'm not even getting an option for size and weight. Has this perhaps had an update on the testport that's not made it over to the game port? (That's not a rhetorical question!)

For the record, my test goblin came out 4'9", 133 lbs, which seems about right on height, but too heavy on weight?

This is set by the race file. The area (chargen.are) will give you some options for weight if you choose the customized path with your character (as opposed to the cookie-cutter profiles available for your chosen class) and then use commands like mpsetweight $n thin or mpsetweight $n heavy which set the weight to arbitrary values based upon the race file. The same is true of height.

Now, race values can be set specifically using the mset command in the game, but I have not been successful using mpsetweight or mpsetheight in a program to give a specific value.

We can change the race file on the game port, but it's really a low priority because no one sees that value and it has no practical bearing in game play terms.

Thats fine that it is a low priority and I certainly understand why. Most of the long time players and people who come to the mud have a reasonable grasp on what each race has for height and weights. But it is the new player not all that familiar with the setting and races that this affects, they will use the rolled heights/weights in descriptions. I have seen it in a 5' tall halfling description already.

I fixed the issue with orcs by setting them from the game, not tinkering with their race file. I just did this to goblins:
Height: 36-48 Weight 40-60 Age: 0

For a more thorough fix, we went through all the race files for currently playable races and added height and weight specifications (many were missing). These updates have now been copied over to the game port, so new PCs of any race should now have appropriate heights and weights. If you find this not to be the case, please speak up and let us know! Thanks everyone!
