Language B(l)uff

I have noticed that sometimes, when someone else (PC or mob) speaks a language different from what I'm speaking, there will be an echo indicating this... but not always.

Could we get that echo to show up every time, so that if - say - I am trying to pretend I don't know darkspeak, I can see that I should pretend not to understand what someone says if they are speaking darkspeak?

I understand it may be a little spammy, but I think it's worth preserving the secrets of those who are inclined to keep them.

I would like to see this. Even with the spam. Sometimes you understand someone but do not know what language to speak so that they may understand you!

Seems like something that could be togglable with a config.

Great point Casamir! A config option for this would be just peachy :)

Nah, it wouldn't be that spammy if the indicator was appended at the end of your 'tell', 'say' and 'sayto'.

Rhangalas says to you, in darkspeech, "Up the irons!"

Not sure how it would work with smoting though. It would probably have to be an echo.

I see what you did there...

Definitely after the speech will make it less spammy rather than another line of something that shows what the language is.

So bring me the blood and red wine for the one to succeed me, for he is a man and a god, and he will die toooo! Tell me, why I had to be a powerslave?

If this were Facebook, there'd be a thumbs up right about now. Perfect! A few good songs on that album with that song name in particular. :D

I'd go back OT but I can't agree more! xD

I'm not in a position to execute it, but I approve this suggestion. Paid for by the sneaky peeps MUD fund of North America.

I would still find it spammy if I had to see it as a part of every say or smote, especially in the market. It could only echo when there was a language change. If someone starts speaking a different language from the main conversation, then it kicks in for only one line letting you know the change. This lets you pick out which batches of conversation are which language with minimal disruption. Another point, given how npcs relate blocks of text (see below;) some of these speeches are parsed specifically not to have it push past a certain length of character for formatting reasons. If this kind of feature is added, it should be limited to pcs only, if part of the say itself. Though, I'd still rather have it togglable, regardless of whatever form it takes.

Mob 1 says Hello I see
Mob 1 says what you
Mob 1 says did there.

What if we changed the colour of the quotes to indicate language? I think they are always green now, so we could make that common, then have white for elvish etc...no more real estate used up, but a bit more information conveyed?

#1: Do we have enough colors for that?
#2: Would the colors always show up, or only if you recognize the language?

Really like this idea and once I have a computer and could use color that would be fantastic. There are a few of us out there though who cannot see the different colors. Using my phone to play and all my text is white. Do think that would be great though and it is a good compromise.

First attempt should be available shortly. Let me know where and when it does the wrong thing!
