Gromph cycle broken?

I've noticed a couple times that Gromph seems to be chilling outside the compound for no apparent reason. I believe he is supposed to move between the House and Sorcere. I am guessing he cannot enter the compound because he cannot fly?House Baenre Gates

The House Baenre is one of the oldest house of Menzoberranzan. It is tight
between twenty huge stalagmites and ten huge stalactites. Every inch of the
building is crowned with magical light, blue for the external towers, purple
for the central dome. Balconies are glowing. The gleam of candelabras, not
frequent in the underdark, filter through the rare windows. A magical gate
surround the block, and hundreds of sentries are pacing up and down the
approaches to the House.
