I know that this is IC info so I dont expect exact coordinates, but is there a thieves guild in Waterdeep? I am new to muds and this one in particular. Ive looked at the maps on the site and tried talking to NPCs but cant seem to find much. Also there arent many PCs online right now or atleast not near me, that I could ask. Also is there a way to get a generic NPC to converse with you for purposes of info gathering? Thanks.

Foremost, Welcome to FK. Seccondly, to get a NPC to speak it must be inhabited by an Immortal or it must have a mob-prog on it and even then it wont tell you much. If you really have questions try the Market Square in Waterdeep. There is bound to be someone who can point you in the right dirrection.. If you pop the question right.

bad EX: Pacco says, 'Wat way to teh thieves guild. Im da bestest thief!!11!!'

possible good example..?
Leroy says, 'Ma'am, Sirs, I have reciently lost something of great value to me. I believe a certain rogue would be responsible. Do you know of a hangout where ruffians and thoese such hang arround?

On Lukans map he has a key that has different symbols standing for guilds, look on all of Lukan's maps for a guild such as that, and travel to the city with the guild. Ask around IC to see if you can find that certain guild ;)

Though before traveling to that city, you might want to have your character go buy the map objects. Just looking them all up on the website is kinda OOC... I imagine IC most people wouldn't know the layouts of more than one or two cities by heart.

Plus, RPing a struggle with the map is always fun. No handy "You are here" symbol. :D

You should only refer to the maps on the website if you purchase the ingame copy ICly. It might be tempting to peek anyway, but you really shouldn't.

An Exception

While I totally agree with this, I would argue the point that you should be able to look at the map of your hometown free of charge. All those poor newbies in Waterdeep get lost all the time (I still do, too), and you should be allowed to occasionally glance at it to represent the knowledge your character gained by growing up there, you know?

I think any map on the website is considered "public knowledge" like all the rest of the stuff here. Is why we don't have any dungeon maps.

Of course, exceptions could be made, obviously no one outside really expects to know what menzoberranzan looks like until they find an IC map.

You are wrong here Isolrem, I think either on the maps themselves, when you buy them, or on the FK map site stands something that you should only use those maps when your char bought maps ICly. Although I agree that after a certain time spending in a city/on Faerun you should be ICly allowed as well to consult those maps without carrying them with you all the time.

I didn't even know that there were maps on the webpage. You're right, it's terribly tempting to go look at them now, but I wont, as you said, until I can figure out how to get those maps. Well, considering I've only been outside of waterdeep twice I don't have to worry about that just yet.
