Evil Halfling Priests

So, I went to go make an evil halfling priest and got this...

Halfling priests must be lawful/neutral good or lawful neutral to follow Yondalla.
Halfling priests must be chaotic or neutral good to follow Tymora.
Anything else would require a special roleplay application.
Special roleplay applications for other halfling priests are not being taken at this time.
So, I'm curious as to the thought process behind it. I was under the impression that lightfoot halflings were as varied as the human race and not nailed down into any one alignment. So, why are we making them have to be good priests?

It seems as those clerics are open without restriction to halflings based on the helpfile. Anyway, I'm really just looking to open up a discussion about this. Why is this restriction in place? Should it be?

I've seen a few SRD examples of halfling druids/priests of malar. Mostly in the faiths and pantheons book from 3rd edition. No idea.

I've noticed that halflings are not the only restricted ones, but dwarven priests are as well. You can't make a dwarven priest anything other than LG. So even NG, or CG. Seems a little two restrictive for two varied races.

Would seem to me Mask and Malar would be among the evil priests that wouldn't be that uncommon. By brother has been wanting to start playing but he has been quite busy recently. I know he was planning on seeing if he could make a TrueN Lightfoot Halfling priest of Mask. I'm sure city Halflings of a neutral alignment would sometimes even flock to Mask. I read the first book in this Paul S. Kemp series, maybe 6 years ago and I believe there was a Halfling character that worships the shadow lord along with the main character.

I don't see a big problem with it either. I feel like Halflings should just as varied in profession and alignment just like humans. If nothing else, I think we should open up applications to allow evil halfling priests.

Applications are open for pretty much anything you can think of, including other alignments for races if chargen is picky about those.

It says in the help file that applications aren't being taken for them.

Perhaps we can move this to suggestions and see about opening up halfling priest alignments? The same might be true for dwarfs, but I'm not overly familiar with them as a whole so can't really comment there.

The post has kinda stagnated...
Does anyone see a reason for *not* allowing it? I feel like there is often a shortage of evil characters, though that may just be the evil people doing their job of keeping their ill intent a secret.

Evils don't always need to keep ill intent secret? That seems a little strange to me.
I would be open for giving them both more options, even if the dwarven priests just end up with more good, and neutral options.

I haven't read any reason as to why they are restricted. I (obviously) am in full support of opening up halflings and, if there are no objections, dwarves. These races are vary diverse and it seems appropriate to have more evils and priests at that in these race.

It would make sense. Most dwarves follow there pantheon, but there are plenty that walk outside it. Especially if they come from one of the surly clans. It's like when people say dwarves don't like water. Yet even in the novels there's a ton of dwarvish sailors! and halflings they are as diverse as humans. They can be the nicest and the meanest of people! They all revere Yondalla but plenty follow human deities as well.

There is at least one evil dwarf god for normal dwarves and two for grey dwarves and their like.

It's the priests that are blocked, the rest of them can seem to follow whoever they want, but if you go priest, it has be LG for some reason. At least with dwarves. I haven't tried to make a halfling priest, but I can't imagine any of these being so restricted. There are more gods, and alignments to follow than just the basics.

I agree, almost every pantheon has at least one evil god to follow and the main one has several good choices.

The halflings can only be anything that Tymoran and Yondalla clerics can be.
