Magical bracers of ac

Simply put. bracers with +ac don't seem to have any benefit at all. Is it just not reflected in score or does wrist slot ac bonus unless it's of size/deflection/shield/ or nature doesn't give any benefit. I recently bought one from another player and it doesn't show a localized or general bonus to any ac.

Different bracers are coded differently. Can you be more specific as to which you are experiencing this with? Specifically, can you give the verbatim description (LOOK and inventory label) for the bracers in question? I'm guessing it is an RMI table drop, but want to be sure.

Thanks!

The +AC armour enchant is not additive. AC is determined by the highest value of AC you have for any given location.

If you have bracers of +2 ac for example and are wearing any armor that is AC value of 2 or greater you will see no changes. AC Value of 2 is leather armor and better, only padded armor is less value. If you are a wizard and have the armor spell in effect its armor value is 4 and would exceed the +2 of the bracers. To check that the bracers are working remove all your armor in one location and check your score
note what your Armour Class is without armor and wear the bracers, the armour class value should then increase for just the unarmored location.

Code: Select all

 Ability Scores | Armour Class
 STR 18/18 Bonus: +4 | head 13 (none) (max dex: 3) Shield: +0
 DEX 13/13 Bonus: +1 | body 16 (none) (max dex: 3) Size: +0
 CON 14/14 Bonus: +2 | arms 13 (none) (max dex: 3) Natural: +0
 INT 20/20 Bonus: +5 | hands 14 (none) (max dex: 3) Deflection: +0
 WIS 16/15 Bonus: +3 | waist 16 (none) (max dex: 3)
 CHA 17/16 Bonus: +3 | legs 13 (none) (max dex: 3) Spell Failure: 0%
                     | feet 13 (none) (max dex: 3) Armour Penalty: +0
You fit a leather bracer around your wrist.

This is a leather bracer. It is a medium treasure.
Its weight is about 0 lbs, value is 40 platinum, 4 gold.
It is of high quality and in perfect condition. It is made of leather.
Enchanted to provide '+2' to ac armour.

Code: Select all

 Ability Scores | Armour Class
 STR 18/18 Bonus: +4 | head 15 (none) (max dex: 3) Shield: +0
 DEX 13/13 Bonus: +1 | body 16 (none) (max dex: 3) Size: +0
 CON 14/14 Bonus: +2 | arms 15 (none) (max dex: 3) Natural: +0
 INT 20/20 Bonus: +5 | hands 15 (none) (max dex: 3) Deflection: +0
 WIS 16/15 Bonus: +3 | waist 16 (none) (max dex: 3)
 CHA 17/16 Bonus: +3 | legs 15 (none) (max dex: 3) Spell Failure: 0%
                     | feet 15 (none) (max dex: 3) Armour Penalty: +0
The enchant on the bracers in the example is working because it adds 2 armour class to every location besides the body and waist where the base value already exceed the +2 to ac armour enchant.

Can confirm Tim's assessment. Not sure if it's working as intended though, as the old +AC enchant was a generic enchant that did add to your armor score (supposedly, this was all pre-armor rework/transparency/enchantment changes--those enchants did indicate an increase of armor status from the descriptors we had back then).
