The Use of Dye

Post by Aysa » Mon Mar 17, 2014 1:49 am

I hope I'm putting this in the right place.

Anyway, Aysa stumbled across some yellow dye up in Silkhole. Everything in her possession is black, yellow, white, or some variation along that color scheme. Her silk spell component bag is the only thing that stands out as it's blue. I was hoping that the dye could work upon the bag... however, I don't know the syntax to use the dye. Or if there's a coding issue, or what have you.

Anyway, help me help me!

Your first post and I'm pretty sure the answer is: it doesn't work.

I hope I'm wrong. If so, someone correct me?

The dyes in Silkhole, I believe, are used for those clothes there. To dye your bag, you would have to apply for a rename. As far as I know, you cannot use dyes.

A complete set of leather dyes are coded, with vnums 124-138. There is also a DYE command, which takes the syntax
DYE <OBJECT> <DYESTUFF>
However, with every object I tried, it returned "You cannot dye that object."
I thought they might be for leathersmiths to dye their projects, but crafted boots were not amenable to the treatment. I also tried "plain" wares, to no avail. In short, I don't know what these can be used on, if anything (only a peek at the hard code for DYE would tell, I think).

Interestingly, there are also metal enamels coded, but I've never actually encountered them in-game.
