End with the cruel, cruel world?

I was playing on my low level character, level 9, and he ran into a bandit which handed it to him. I was able to flee, but the bandit... oddly followed me... but stopped attacking.... I don't know if this pertains to the story or not... anyhow I'm trying to get away on a horse and fall off the horse. I hit -2% health... ok I'm not dead... but I'm dead... right?
Anyhow, one this is for sure, I'm unconscious. After a while I go to -4%, then a while later -6%... still not dead... then suddenly I'm at 0%... ok this is going to be over... I might live... nope... -2%... -4%... -6%.... 0%.... -2%.... -4%
Ok, enough is enough.... I'm going to log out..
You are hurt far too badly for that.
You are hurt far too badly for that.
You are hurt far too badly for that.
You are hurt far too badly for that.
You are hurt far too badly for that.
You are hurt far too badly for that.
You are hurt far too badly for that.
You are hungry.
You are hurt far too badly for that.
You are hurt far too badly for that.
You're not DEAD yet. <---- The message I get when I tried to log out. REALLY???? "Oh no... you can't leave the game after sitting there for 10 minutes... no... you have to DIE first... WTF? =)
So I don't know why my health was yo-yo ing up and down, don't know if the bandit was still trying to kill me but failing miserably.... or what... but this is a little messed up.

When at 0% and lower you slowly lose HP. Sometimes you will lose HP too slow and a 'tick' will pass wherein you gain HP (as though resting). Most times you will actually recover back to normal from this. Essentially what happened is that you were stunned and trying to recover.

Ok that explains it, but it should have still allowed me to log out, rather than drag me through that long process.

Personally I think you should have a chance to recover if stunned. Like 10-20% per tick to stabilize.

Oh, I had assumed that was already in the game..... so once you are unconscious and bleeding out... you are as good as dead???
Well that really makes it a real cruel thing to force someone to sit through that death. =)
Is there a command like "letmediealready? =)

Sort of. If the person/NPC is set to stun, then you won't ever be set to bleeding. If they're not, then the amount of damage it takes to stun you will usually make you bleed.

I'd be in favor of a command like this that would check your HP before it says something to the extent of "You can't take it anymore and commit seppuku."

How about 'succumb'? As in, "You give up on life and succumb to death."

I like succumb. The suicide command doesn't really fit, cause if you're so broken you can't even "look", you can't commit suicide.

That may be a bandage solution for the short term, but I believe that this is a hard code issue that needs to be fixed eventually. Players should die when their health drops below 0, not linger at -2.

In 3.5 the idea is that from -9 to 0 you are unconscious, and so in PNP a comrade might be able to save you. It's the bleeding out that will kill you (drop you to -10,) if you were just bludgeoned unconscious you could recover. In game terms, you get 'ticks' of slowly bleeding to death. I think death should be immediate below 0 hp if two requirements are met, first you are actually bleeding (you will not recover,) and second there are no other players in the room (no one can save you.)

AD&D 2nd edition it was "When a character reaches 0 hit points that character is slain. The character is immediatly dead and unable to do anything unless some specialized magical effect takes precedence." - at least in the PHB. Hovering On Death's Door where you bled out to -10 was an optional rule in the DMG.
In 3 and 3.5, at 0 you're not actually unconcious. You can take a single move or standard action, but doing anything but moving will deal a point of damage once the action is done (so make that action drinking a cure potion). -1 to -9 you're unconcious, every round you have a 10% chance of stabilizing, otherwise you take a 1 hp damage. A DC 15 heal check by a healer as will stabilize you, or any form of hitpoint gain (making the 0th level cure minor wounds a good bandaid).
The real difference between 2ed's optional rule and 3rd's RAW rule is that 10% autostabilize chance.
Later 3rd and 3.5 edition books had feats and prestiege classes that let you go all Black Metal Barbarian or Battlerager and fight until you're nothing more than a pile of -10HP chunky kibbles, because that's just how berserkers should be. I think there was a 2nd ed berserker fighter kit with a similar power.
Summary: everyone is right about everything and if nothing else bleeding out in FK is actually slower than RAW DnD.
