Another side question, is it true that a Grappling Hook will help with climb checks? If so, do you need to wield it, wear it, or just have it in your inventory?

When I attempt to wear it on my belt (with no armor on, besides belt), it says:

It will help if held, but an exotic weapon proficiency is needed for lassos.
