The Open Days of Menzo
The Open Days of Menzo
I was flipping through my source book for Menzo... and during the summer months, they have something called "Open Days".
This celebration is like a week-long Trade Fair, inviting visitors into the city so that the merchants can sell their wares, business deals can be made, and so that guests to the city can see the wonder and awe of the City of Spiders. I would like to do something like this, but I want to make sure there would be a turn out for it.
Any thoughts? Observations? Comments?

Re: The Open Days of Menzo
This sounds like a fun event. The drow could also host a tournament at this time as well.. give some from the surface a reason to come to Menzo without being killed on sight!
Re: The Open Days of Menzo
I definitely like the sparring contest... which would allow for the Noble Houses to demonstrate the prowess of their military/guards. Vierva would serve as the Historian of sorts, to weave a tale of Lolth Lore (unless a bard would care to do this).Eechi wrote:This sounds like a fun event. Though, several things of note... safe passage would only exist within the walls of Menzo. And that olive branch would only extend to everyone BUT elves and orcs. I don't see there being much tolerance for their presence. But humans, dwarves, gnomes, halflings -- I could see the invitation being sent.
Re: The Open Days of Menzo
I would love to see this happen.
Re: The Open Days of Menzo
I'm working out the details now...
A sparring contest (where the different noble houses are encouraged to submit a participant as well as outsiders) -- trying to find the right area. Was thinking maybe the Moss Beds.
I would like to see a buffet style of food at the Warmfires Inn...
Drow Lore / Tale Telling would be done near the Ruling Council...
Shops would be highlighted somewhere -- I may make a map or something.
Any other suggestions?

Loving this idea.
Though i would suggest not using the ruling council area as that is restricted to nobles only. Maybe pick one of the inns for that or spider books ?

Re: The Open Days of Menzo
The only reason why I suggested some place like the Ruling Council or outside Baenre Compound is because technically, Open Days opens up many doors to the city. Noble houses invite guests into their homes for meals and celebration. But... I'll see if there's another place.Duranamir wrote:Loving this idea.

After all, if the food is in the West Wall district, that's "old school" noble area... so they do get to see that aspect of it.
Re: The Open Days of Menzo
So what day(s) work for people?
Do we want to do an all day affair like on the weekend? Saturday? Sunday?
Or do we want to choose like a Tuesday or a Wednesday, to give enough time for people to prepare -- and simply make it a three hour (tour) event?

Re: The Open Days of Menzo
I would suggest having times for each event.
Some people may want to show up and beat up some drow players for the tournament but not make the story telling portion.
Some may want to come to just socialize and check out the shops on their own time.
A Saturday or Sunday would probably work best as we can start earlier and it gives overseas people the chance to join in.

Re: The Open Days of Menzo
Sounds like fun......Fridays are historically Drow days.
I am stuck to UK day times only so an all day event would work for me but obviously majority rules.

Re: The Open Days of Menzo
Thanksgiving week 24th-28th would be good for me. Although I think that's probably a little soon. The second half of December will be good for me as well.
Also, what's the policy on super evil half elves attending?

Re: The Open Days of Menzo
I don't think there would be an issue, other than the fact that you're a half-blood, and I wouldn't expect the culture to change just because of Open Days. But I don't think you'd be killed on sight.Dranso wrote:Also, what's the policy on super evil half elves attending?
Re: The Open Days of Menzo
I don't know if I have that ability, but I have no objections to this request. There has to be some kind of "lock" in place because newbies can't get up there until they're a certain level.Atraos wrote:Just on this...Can I suggest that Tier Breche is closed off to non Drow if it isnt already.
Re: The Open Days of Menzo
I like this idea, so we'll plan for a Saturday / Sunday. And I believe someone else wanted November 28th-ish... so that works as it's the Saturday after Turkey Day. So we'll make that the date... I still want to get with Armgo folk to see if they want to do something... and then a sprinkling of Xorlarrin and Tlabbar folk to see if they got / want to plan anything.Eechi wrote:I would suggest having times for each event.

Re: The Open Days of Menzo
Ok... I think I can shift stuff from the Ruling Council to Narbondel's Shadow -- it would be a good "landmark" for Menzo.Duranamir wrote:Loving this idea.

Re: The Open Days of Menzo
Hopefully my internet will return next week so I MIGHT be able to send my little commoner mage out there. I really like this idea and would love to be there. Thanks for organizing this!
Re: The Open Days of Menzo
FYI...
The sparring tournament will begin at noon on that Saturday, and we will bracket those who are planning on participating then.
Please note: It could be warrior vs wizard, rogue vs priestess, or any combinations - no classes are excluded. Obviously, with spellcasters being included - magic is not off limits. This is a no holds barred event!
The sparring tournament will take place at the Ruins of House Do'Urden.
I suppose depending on the turn out, we might break it down by levels (0-20, 21-40, 40+) -- though I suspect that most low level folk won't be able to make the IC journey down to Menzo.

Re: The Open Days of Menzo
This is just a reminder... this Saturday (Saturday, Saturday, Saturday!) ... Open Days will begin at noon EST. The tournament will begin at 1pm EST (please come early so that we can register and organize the brackets for the tournament).
