[ 11] Theia: Contest of Possibilities
Sun Mar 1 01:03:33 2015
To: all Language: common
Mystra is well known as the goddess of magic and the weave, but less often is it mentioned that she is the goddess of possibilities. In honor of this, you are invited to submit works of creativity with the theme of possibilities. Works may be poetry, stories, paintings, or any other type of art that can be presented on parchment or similar material. Please submit works to Theia in person or through the magical post.

Prizes will be awarded to the best three works, judged on talent, and relevance to the theme. Prizes will be in platinum coins, with the potential for other prizes depending on participation. Please be sure to submit your work before the deadline, and make sure to include your name.

(ooc note, since I am terrible at IC to OOC conversions, the deadline will be end of day Sunday, March 8th, based on game server time from the time command. Also if you choose to submit a picture of any kind, I ask that this be done with descriptive text and not ascii art. Ascii art will not qualify for this particular contest.)

To clarify, the reason I am excluding ascii art is that I am blind in real life, and so judging ascii art would be impossible. If this goes over well there's a definite possibility of further similar contests where we may have multiple judges and perhaps different categories so that the ascii drawings could be included but for now, put your writing skills to work!

An exemplary entry may also receive some Immortal incentive as well.

I'm sad to find out that no one submitted to this contest!

I found out today (Theia and I are RL roommates/housemates) that nothing was written and sent in.

FYI: The reason no ascii art is allowed is because Theia is a blind player. Symbols and random letters are not decipherable by screen reader.

Is there a way to encourage player participation in this kind of thing?

I was going to submit with my Mystran bard until I found the no ascii clause.

It's perfectly fine and all - but I spend hours on pretty in depth ascii that has come off with rather impressive reviews! Mayhaps teaming up with a seeing player(is that proper to say? I don't want to be offensive but I'm ignorant admittedly) in the future to make ascii possible - or having a "Submit ascii but describe it detailed in words for me" thing will help in the future!

I thought seriously about doing that, but didn't for a couple of reasons.

1. I wanted to encourage people's writing rather than ascii art. I've noticed that this game tends to be a bit ascii art heavy, which is understandable but I'm sure people can get really good word descriptions going too!

2. I'm not sure it's fair to try to judge ascii and writing in the same contest, even with visual assistance. How would you know which is best of an ascii drawing of an apple and a brilliantly worded description of the same apple?

With all that said, I've been here for only about eight months, a newbie compared to many of you. This contest was an experiment to see how well it would go over... Apparently, not that well, but that's ok. I've seen it done on another rp mud but that game had a bigger playerbase, too.

I'll just have to think up something else!

Oh and no offense taken with the wording Mel, don't worry.

So is this contest void? I did submit, but I sent it as a pm.
